(28,086 posts)my loony right wing cousin posted it on Facebook so as far as the reliability is concerned I'm inclined to think "not so much" ....And the Daily Mail is quoted in the article.)
Allegedly, this is the family Georgie-boy rescued:

[div class = "excerpt"]
Slowly but surely, details about George Zimmerman's first appearance since being acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin are coming to light. According to the Daily Mail, the couple pulled from the SUV are Dana and Mark Gerstle.
Father of two, Mr. Gerstle, 52, was driving onto the off ramp of the highway when he lost control of the vehicle resulting in the terrifying crash that left him, his wife and two children aged eight and four trapped....
...Zimmerman was not a witness to the accident, which took place last week on Wednesday at about 5:17 p.m. He did, however, arrive on the scene shortly afterwards.
And the Gerstles aren't the only ones tight-lipped about their encounter with Zimmerman. The former neighborhood watch volunteer didn't even tell his defense team that he was part of the dramatic rescue. Speaking to MailOnline Shawn Vincent, a spokesman for Zimmermans attorney Mark OMara said: "We spoke with George on Friday and he made no mention of this at all. Thats very typical of George. He has a history of getting involved
.its just the way he is. There has already been the backlash of people saying this is some sort of PR stunt but it isnt. Weve had it confirmed by the Sheriff."
Sanford Police Department Capt. Jim McAuliffe said that Zimmerman was identified by one of the crash victims as the man who pulled him and his family from the Ford Explorer.
"George Zimmerman pulled me out," firefighters were told by the unidentified driver, according to McAuliffe.
But when asked if Zimmerman was being called a hero, sheriff spokeswoman Kim Cannaday had this to say: "We're not going that far."
I find it odd that the article that claims to identify the driver later quotes "the unidentified driver".

(4,185 posts)Right. The quote could be older than the story and since is was cut and pasted in the insert block, it could be an oversight. At that point the names weren't public and this captain sure wasn't giving them up.
What I find interesting is that the kids are blurred. That's one of two reasons. 1 the parents gave them the photo under the condition of blurring. Or 2, the media found the photo online like at Facebook given their outfits and because the kids are under 18 they are blurred.
If 2, is correct. It's very likely no one has talked to the family, or my cynical point that the story didn't fit the narrative.

I'm would be ready to believe everything if not for the bit about Zim not telling his lawyers. I can't buy that or frankly would fault him for doing so. In fact it's a little reckless not to do so. I can understand why the defense team would say it. They have plausible deniability backed by attorney client privledge. So they don't have to say spit or get follow up questions. But, they have been together so long I can't believe it wouldn't come up.

(57,936 posts)Someone was teaching me just a little tiny bit of martial arts the other day. It was amazing. I am tiny, and if you have martial arts training, you can defend yourself. I do not believe that Trayvon could have overpowered Zimmerman. It's just not credible at all.
Either Zimmerman's story is a big lie, or he was a loser in martial arts training.

(3,248 posts)Several people on FB speculated that Zimmerman has (heck, probably always had) a police scanner.
He could be trying to rehabilitate his image by using it to find accidents, then rushing to the scene so he can be Johnny-on-the-spot.

(5,039 posts)Where are the witnesses? Is there video (from news crews/police cam/cell phones)? What does the police report say? I'm VERY skeptical about this.
Boom Sound 416
(4,185 posts)1. the family and the other guy who pulled over and the police
2. their weren't any new crews there. They aren't just roaming the highways and no one said his name over the police broadcast. it was on an interstate ramp. Not really cellphone camera friendly. the police car would have to have been pointed right at him.
3. Zimmerman wasn't witness to the accident so he was not listed in the police report (I read that some where, don't know its vaildity),but his name is either in it or not for insurance claim reasons mostly. the report is either public under FOIA or not.

(5,039 posts)A little too convenient. And on another note, I worked in television; I KNOW News crews don't "ROAM" the highways BUT if there's a traffic accident sometimes news CHOPPERS will flyover and get a shot. Besides, there are cameras everywhere now, especially near on/off-ramps.
After what went down in Sanford, I just can't take the Police at their word. That's all.
