Colorado Springs Poised To Ban Retail Marijuana Stores

Colorado’s second-largest city is poised to ban recreational marijuana stores.

The Colorado Springs City Council plans to vote Tuesday on allowing retail marijuana stores. Four of nine council members have said they’ll vote against retail pot, and even if the sales are approved, Mayor Steve Bach says he’ll veto recreational pot shops. That would leave the idea without enough support to override a mayoral veto.

Colorado Springs allows medical marijuana dispensaries, and some people are hoping it would also allow retail sales for all adults over 21. The city was projected to raise more than $3 million a year from retail pot sales taxes.

However, the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance and area military leaders warned against retail sales in Colorado Springs
