Virginia Republican (The Cooch) Suffers Abortion Backlash From Donors

Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli has less than half as much cash as Democratic opponent Terry McAuliffe, with a prominent list of Republican donors sitting out this year’s most competitive U.S. political contest -- and in some cases switching sides.

The financial disadvantage four months before the election illustrates the difficulties confronting an attorney general who is campaigning on an economic growth plan yet is best known for his opposition to gay marriage and abortion.

“Mr. Cuccinelli’s very hard stance on some of the social issues is a concern for me,” said Virginia Beach developer Bruce L. Thompson, chief executive officer of Gold Key/PHR Hotels and Resorts, a financial backer of current Republican Governor Bob McDonnell who in May gave McAuliffe $25,000.

“I believe personally in a woman’s right to choose, but I also think from an economic development standpoint, we’re trying to attract businesses from other areas of the country, and we’re telling women that we’re going to regulate the way that they run their life? I just don’t think we can be exclusionary when it comes to women” and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, Thompson said.

I think other states with nutjob governors and legislatures are surreptitiously contributing to the Cooch/Jackson campaigns in the forlorn hope that they'll actually be elected so their states won't look so crazy anymore by comparison.

We citizens of Virginia are on to you guys, and don't think for a moment that this dastardly deed will be overlooked.

You might think it's good to get rid of a corrupt pol like McDonnell, but the problem with Republicans is the next one coming along is always worse.

Just when I thought "well, they scraped the bottom of the barrel with Governor Ultrasound", I find they'd scraped past the bottom of the barrel with The Cooch (and ol' E.W.).

They'll get their share of the votes from south of Richmond and west of Roanoke, but at least those are relatively low-population parts of the state, and even people around my little part of Appalachia are starting to voice a certain level of disgust with republicans (which I naturally encourage as much as possible).

That has always been my impression of McAuliffe. What a sad state of affairs you have there.

Mr. Coochie is more likely to cut into their profits from boycotts and such. They simply did the math.
