Dallas: Mary Kay marks 50 years in beauty products

Dallas: Mary Kay marks 50 years in beauty products

The Dallas Morning News (http://dallasne.ws/1b3hCTA ) reports about 50,000 independent consultants are expected at the convention Monday. Mary Kay events at the Dallas Convention Center run through Aug. 7.

President and CEO David Holl joined the company in 1993. Holl describes founder Mary Kay Ash, who died in 2001, as "an absolute rock star."

Ash and her 20-year-old son, Richard Rogers, started Beauty by Mary Kay in a 500-square-foot industrial storefront in Dallas.

Mary Kay products, known for their pink containers, are sold in more than 50 countries.

Pretty amazing that she started this company 50 years ago with $5,000 and it made $2.9B in 2011.
