Student accidentally shot at concealed weapons class
Victim, who is wife of sheriff's deputy, expected to be OK
By Kim Kimzey
The wife of a Spartanburg County sheriff's deputy was accidentally shot Saturday during a concealed weapons permit class instructed by another deputy.
The victim, Crystal Smith, was struck with a .22-caliber bullet, Spartanburg Sheriff Chuck Wright said at a news conference.
Deputy Calvin Skip Smith was showing another student in the course how to properly grip her gun when it discharged, and Crystal, who was standing beside the other student on the firing line, was shot. Wright said the bullet passed through Crystal's arm and entered her side.

(12,530 posts)Should the reporter just make something up so as not to upset you? How should it be reported? I'm lost.

(12,530 posts)I was nice the first time. This is not a requirement however. Either answer the question or be exposed as someone who doesn't make much sense in the world of the rational. What fucking lie would you have had the reporter tell in order to please you? This shouldn't be too difficult for you to answer, one wouldn't think.

(11,064 posts)If such negligent shooting is relatively innocuous because of the size of the caliber, what are the odds that the shooter would be willing to have the shooting victim take a shot at them with a .22?
From the event, the shooter should learn at least two things. One is that due care is required when handling a firearm. The second is that a .22 is too light. It may cause holes but you can't rely upon it to knock down like a .45

(16,201 posts)I never said anything about scars or the like. That said, a .22 wound is going to heal a helluva lot better than a 9mm or .45 wound. The energy of a .22 is a lot smaller, so the wound track doesn't leave as much damage in its wake.

2.Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3.Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4.Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

most of us gun owners are better trained. And we know we can defend ourselves if somebody breaks into our homes.
