Gov. Rick Snyder: Government bailout is the wrong answer for Detroit
By Stephanie Condon
Gov. Rick Snyder, R-Mich., said Sunday on "Face the Nation" that granting Detroit a government bailout would be the wrong way to help the bankrupt city.
"I do not view that as the right answer," Snyder told "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer when asked whether he would ask the federal government for a bailout. "The right answer is, bankruptcy is there to deal with the debt question."
Snyder said the state cannot bail out Detroit, and while the federal government will make its own decision on a bailout, he said, "I don't expect one."
"It's not just about putting more money in a situation," the governor said. "It's about better services to citizens again. It's about accountable government."

(9,841 posts)We need to be pre-emptive, in their face about this. Let them know that their plan to keep lowering taxes and impoverishing workers isn't going to fly anymore.

It does if that government in question is ran by republicans! Their main goal is to privatize everything, stop paying the pensions, and then give huge tax breaks to corporations and the rich. Why people keep voting these morons into office is beyond me!

I don't think they have even tried to veil their intentions!

(3,888 posts)both actively employed and retired, to finance tax breaks for the uber-wealthy but I would not call that government responsible.
I fear its not just republicans, who are willing to support such evil policies.
Both American political parties are wed to the idea that its just fine to get rich by exploiting (using up) both natural and human resources.
Capitalism is based on inequality, it is anti-democratic, it lacks morality or ethics and, for many Americans, is accepted on faith.
People, we, keep voting these morans into office because we are given no other choices and because we have swallowed the kool-aid of capitalism.

(2,424 posts)It should be the accounts in the Cayman Islands bailing out Detroit instead.
The hidden money that does not pay taxes, nor "trickles down", nor invests in manufacturing, nor creates jobs.
That is where Detroit's money is. Bring it back where it belongs.
In Detroit.
