Sen. Mary Landrieu's (D-LA) bill would allow federal government to fund religious activities.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) announced Thursday that Lindsey Graham (R-SC) had signed on as a co-sponsor of her Freedom to Pray Act. The bill would prohibit the federal government from withholding or revoking funds to programs whose participants engage in religious activities.

In 2007, it received about $14.8 million in federal funds for research, with 64% from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, the United States Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense.[66] In 2010, the school received $5.6 million from the Department of Education to fund fellowships in several international studies fields.[67] Georgetown University Medical Center received an additional $118.4 million from these and other government sources.

Just like crosstown rival Catholic University (and Boston College, Notre Dame and all the Loyolas, Marymounts, Saints and St.s), they take guidance on policy, objectives, administration and educational & research goals from the holy see. If the Vatican wants to dictate the policies of the university, they can pay for it.

If the RCC doesn't want to pay for it, they can renounce Ex Corde Ecclesiae and concede they have no right of say in how Catholic colleges and universities in the United States are run or administered.

US taxpayer dollars should not be funding anybody's religious practices or exercise.

who have prayed. The food assistance could be freeing cash that might be used for religious practices.

More savings.

Should probably be a religious test included on the application.

Wait, you don't think that the government would unfairly give to certain religions while withholding from others, thereby almost appearing to sanction some while denying others?

It's disgusting when a religion uses its power to try to abuse the rights of others - but that's what happens in this nation, repeatedly. That's the entire reason for any opposition to GLBT civil rights - religious extremists who want the govt. to protect their right to discriminate against others.

It's sad that such a large sector of this nation participates in religions grounded in hate.

but they do.

I sure hope Louisiana can find a true Democrat for that office. I don't want my tax dollars funding ANY religion. Religion is NOT necessary to live. Let her and her g/f pay them out of her OWN pockets to spew gibberish shit.

Those two just want to make some extra cash, selling snakes North to the churches in states that don't have enough to go round. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) Probably won't bother becoming a lobbyist, when he gets canned he will simply become deputy Pope. And Mary Landrieu (D-LA) has been inhaling too much of BP's "Free" Corexit and thinks Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is her fairy Gawdmother.

when they and the uber-righteous in Washington decide to dream up another government tit for the churches to suck dry.(they say Dave knows his poo)

How can an outfit that's never paid any taxes, expect then, to be doled out the taxpayer's dollars? There you go, it's a miracle, served up by Mary and Lindsey, busy campaigning for their own sainthood, while their good "Saintly" friends across the hall, figure out ways to cut off unfortunate school kid's family food stamps and cheat them out of a square meal at school.

Anyone who cuddles up to any of Lindsey's bullshit, smells just about like the talking turd from South Carolina they've cuddled up to.

Republicans are too close to a majority to elect her this time..

Blanche Lincoln tried a similar move to the right and she's gone too..

There will not be any democrats from the south (elected ) for a very long time.. The ones who were hanging on by their fingernails will soon be gone, and that's it... (at least until a significant number of older racists are dead & gone)
