(8,361 posts)It is true, like other older cities (such as St. Louis) the actual city population is dwarfed by the surrounding population in Dade county and sureounding counties.
Unincorporating/dissolving the city of Detroit is the stupidest thing I've ever heard regarding this fiscal crisis.

(13,452 posts)It's the debt. Rather it's the setup of too much debt by the banks so they can privatize privatize privatize with more socialism for themselves, the rich.
Understand, we have no Republicans. Instead we have people with Republican ideology running well funded campaigns as Democrats. They win. We get set up for disaster capitalism.

(20,729 posts)can be traced to the banks, starting with redlining & loans for white people to move to the suburbs 50 years back.
the other 40% can be traced to disinvestment by big corporate actors, starting with ford creating new cities so he didn't have to pay taxes.
