I got the news a little late, as I am on vacation. I'll be posting about it shortly. It's never easy to lose a friend, and the fact that Helen was well known changes nothing. She was my friend, and I'll miss her.

I had the rare pleasure of being able to do that during Helen's lifetime, if only to a few people on a blog or two.

I'm glad I was given the chance to share her with you people.

I will pass it all on to her family and her caregivers. They are from Sierra Leone, and were devoted to her, as she was to them. I hope they get to stay in Washington if that is their desire.

She was a hero of mine. I'm so sorry for your loss, DFW. We all share in that loss. She was a real truth-teller. Even when the truth hurt.
