15-year-old recovering from 100 puncture wounds after pit bull puppies attack

NORTHEAST HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A 15-year-old old girl is recovering from more than 100 puncture wounds on one leg and slashes on the other after a vicious dog attack in her own backyard.

Deputies said her own two pit bull puppies turned on her in an instant.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of N. San Circle Drive. According to investigators, the teenager was giving the puppies food and water when they lunged at her.

The two 8-month-old dogs had the girl pinned on the ground and were reportedly biting her repeatedly.

Family members were able to pry the aggressive pets off of Kasandra Benavides before things got worse.

I recall the first time I went to her house and this thing came up to me, to check me out. I had never seen one up close. I was amazed at just how massive and muscular it's jaws were. If they got on you, they weren't coming off. I always felt uncomfortable around it.

or are given very poor advice.

They watch Cesar Milan and subject their dogs to f'g alpha rolls throughout the day *eye roll*

or are extra stern with pitbulls and make them fearful which leads to aggression toward people who are not their owners.

Owning an aggressive large breed dog is playing roulette if you don't treat them right and behave aggressively toward family members.

The difference is that your aggressive chihauha is much less likely to cause real damage to a person.

The problem with big dogs of certain breeds is that if they aren't trained properly they can be dangerous and deadly. You have to be much more strict and consistent with a dog like a pit, rottie, shepard, etc. To many people own pitbulls because they are "tough looking" and they are cheap to obtain and have absolutely no idea what kind of training these dogs need to be healthy, happy and safe. Instead they treat them like children and are rolling the proverbial dice.

My boyfriend has a Malamute, I have a 6 month old Husky, it takes training pretty much daily. Consistancy is key. Neither one can ever think they are anywhere but the lowest in our pack ( including the cats). We are fully aware of the damage both dogs can do if WE do not do our jobs. I am responsible not only in keeping my dog safe and healthy but also in ensuring that he does not hurt anyone else.

People who deny that certain breeds can be dangerous, more so then others, are the people who end up with problem dogs.

Some people start trying to make the dogs mean from the time they are very young. They want them to be aggressive so they are mean to them from a very young age.

As a pet sitter I take care of a couple of pits that are just big goofs. But they live with people who are really nice to them.

That is not to say that some of the dogs just plain carry genes for aggression. I've heard arguments both ways.

Sweet as could be.

My dad owns several guns and has a ccw. And he has never hurt anyone either.

I have had no issues with me or my daughter being in either place because I don't fear the dog or the guns. Most people, and dogs, are not the type to attack to others. Some are, and those are the ones that would concern me.

Sadly, we often have others who want to lump all into one category and often do so based on emotions and not logic (kind of reminds me of how some want to make laws based on religion while ignoring science).

I am on a border collie board - that's what I have. One of the members is from Canada and she said most of the attacks they have reported there are northern bred dogs.

But one was a Jack Russell that killed a man by tearing out his throat. You wouldn't think that a dog that small could do that kind of damage but they can if the circumstances are right.

If a jack Russell can do that kind of damage to someone you can just imagine what the bigger dogs are really capable of.
