Can't have that black Muslim in our town, dammit! At least that's what I heard all night tonight at work.

Campaign stop, fundraiser by invite only. I remember the local schools were informed that he would be driving by an elementary school. They bussed all the kids to that school and had them stand in the courtyard, waving homemade signs and flags. Of course, at the last minute they decided to bypass the school and drive the other way.

When I said that I thought it was shitty that my kid had worked hard on her sign and was upset that they didn't get to show them to the bus (not even a stop, just a passing bus!) I was told to shut my mouth since, as a woman not from the area, I had no idea how important politicians operated and that he deserved respect. Me, I was just pissed that they actually went out of the way of a main street in order to bypass the school, upsetting so many kids in the process. (BTW-the school was in the path of the business where the bbq fundraiser was held. )

I'm in the town listed in the link above in Missouri. It's a university town and a military town-University of Central Missouri and nearby Whiteman AFB. It's about an hour from Kansas City.
