The Rich.

Since joining the DU, I’ve learned various things and learned to view other things differently. I’ve learned a lot about the fabled 1%, our “evil” overlords. I’ve got some thoughts and questions about them.
I looked up the word “rich” on the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary Online, and found it to be an adjective with eight definitions centered on abundance. Only one of those eight meanings of the word rich was concerned with money or possessions. The four of the eight referred to our senses, rich color, deep rich sound, rich flavor, etc. The last uses refer to abundance with certain qualities, rich meadows, rich soil, etc. So, the super rich not only took the more than their fair share of the resources, they took more than their fair share of the use of the word.
And why?
For a sense of security? At some point you reach the point where you could spend a thousand dollars a day and not go broke in your lifetime. A single million dollars would last you 2 years and 9 months if you spent a thousand dollars a day. A billion dollars would last you 2,750 years spending a thousand dollars a day. I would get bored of shopping in two days.
Is it some sort of weird contest? Do you win a little hat? As there doesn’t seem to by rules to play, why do you have such a problem with non players on the field? If I walk onto a football field during a game and get knocked on my ass, my bad. However, if you hold a football game in my house without my permission or participation; NOT my bad. You don’t have right or reason to make me a board piece, nor do you have a right to bitch if I resist.
Is it to establish a Dynasty? If so, why do you need a dynasty? Seems like a pain in the ass to me. I mean ya gotta get a castle, a crest, somebody will cast a curse or make a prophecy, maidens in towers; all that kinda shit. Some land maybe, a house to pass on, family heirlooms (I mean thing your family treasured, not things bought from other families), family traditions are the things which matter. I would rather pass on a sense of worth by doing, not by having.
As far as I can tell
The only people I can think of who are similar to the driven rich and yet not them are those pitiful old hoarders on TV. The only real difference is the rich collect a certain type of paper. They clutch it just as fanatically as the weepy eyed old lady in a tattered bathrobe clutches her cats. And as we look to her with sympathetic eyes and seek to help her through her problem. Not by letting her continue to collect cats, but with therapy. Do we owe the wealth obsessed any less? If they are so damaged, emotionally or socially, that they would hurt others to feed their addiction; we need to act. We do so with those persons addicted to drugs, sex, gambling, danger, and food.
And those are some of my thoughts on rich people. I am still working on rich non-person people.

It's how the system works, that's all

You don't accuse your automobile of greed because it requires gas and oil to make the engine run

I'm talking about the personality of rich people. I ask, how much do you need versus how much do you perceive you need? Why do you have such a perception?

that no one remembers God's instructions anymore, especially the super-rich.

Back in the day of Leviticus, society was instructed by God to declare every
49th year to be The Year of Jubilee; whereupon God ordained that ALL land
be returned to it's original owners, that all slaves and prisoners are set free,
and all debts are forgiven.

And that's exactly what our 1% need. Someone to force them to divest themselves of a good part of the hoard.

It's a good reason to raise taxes on the 1%!
