Perry signs sweeping abortion bill. Coming up the very conservative 5th Circuit

It's widely regarded as one of the most, if not the most, conservative of the 13 Federal Appeals Court. It is home to such conservative judges as Edith Jones. Eventually, the challenges to the law will end up here where it's likely it'll be upheld.
Should that happen, it will be appealed to SCOTUS.

Rick Perry signs into law most restrictive abortion law in nation

Gov. Rick Perry signed into law sweeping new abortion limits that will outlaw abortions after 20 weeks and force abortion clinics and doctors to meet demanding new standards.

“It is a very happy, celebratory day,” Perry said just before he sat down to sign the bill.

The law, applauded by Republicans and anti-abortion groups in attendance at the signing, will most certainly face lawsuits testing whether it unconstitutionally denies access to an abortion.

Perry signed the bill amid tight security at the Capitol, with a dozen state troopers stationed outside the Capitol auditorium, where the ceremony was held. They kept watch over about three dozen orange-shirted protesters, who held coat-hangers and signs that said “Shame.”

The only good news is that Edith Jones, a real lulu of a nutcase, rolled off as Chief Judge last year and the current Chief Judge is a Clinton appointee. There are currently 1 Carter appointee, 2 Clinton appointees, and 2 Obama appointees serving, with 2 vacancies.

judicial limb to support the 20wk mark in the Texas statute since is directly conflicts with Roe. However I'm guessing that this is exactly what the Neanderthals are looking for - get a case before the USSCt which will let them decide that newer technology permits a younger gestational age as a cut off. They may not directly overrule Roe but they will incrementally disable it by a death of a thousand cuts. If the can get the permissible gestational age lowered to 20 months, plus the TRAP laws, they can deal the right to abortion a severe blow from which it may not recover. And this is the circuit to do it.
