That seems to be the GOP plan for the lazy, parasitic greedy bastards who need at least one thin slice of the national pie to survive. Hell, even a crumb's too much to expect these days.
All the talk lately from corporate sponsors of the GOP about how their economic victims should freeze to death in the dark if they can't manage to starve first. How the underlings should celebrate that $34K puts them ahead of the already starving third world millions. How we'd actually be better off WITHOUT a minimum wage of any kind, because what's good for the Kochs and other plutocrats is good for the rest of us. What's next, learn to eat grass like the North Koreans - it doesn't hurt them any?
Every day I seem to learn ever more about what the term 'filthy rich' can mean. With GOP obstructionism in Congress and the House passage of a farm bill with massive taxpayer dollars showered on agribusiness giants, the rest of us see cut after cut after cut everywhere we turn. How are they going to satisfy their bloodlust when the last of us has been reduced to a dry husk? Turn on each other, most likely.
While I'm sure President Obama would veto any such farm bill the GOP could possibly force through Congress, that's not going to feed the nation's increasingly dispossessed and desperate people while this tug of war drags on. Yes We Can wrest control away from the GOP in 2014 if enough of us survive to show up at the polls and start repairing the damage they've done, but how many people will be crushed meanwhile? Are we supposed to freeze AND starve to death in the dark come winter? If we make it that far, of course.
My 66-year-old sister's income and other circumstances have not changed at all in the last 6 months, but today she received a letter saying her medical expenses had gone down (Medicaid suddenly kicked her off the non-spend down category and says she has to pay so much per month to keep coverage), therefore her food stamps will be cut from $69 to $16 per month. How the hell do they figure that?
Now of course after voting these vultures into office all her life, and repeatedly declaring me dead to her because I've always proudly been a conservative's worst nightmare, suddenly she thinks she's going to move in with me to save herself from the consequences of kissing capitalist vulture ass all her life. How many of you think that would work even if I were stupid enough to allow it? I told her no and why but added don't worry, I'm sure I'm on their hit list too. Maybe we'll meet again under a bridge somewhere. A few cuts here today, a few more cuts there tomorrow, and before you know it everybody's goose is cooked. Soylent Green, here we come.
This is my way of saying I spit in the face of everybody who's cast a single vote in the GOP column in the last 30+ years.

I hope your sister sees that hard truth now.

(6,151 posts)Well, that's the printable version of what she said. I don't believe she'll ever admit even to herself the evil she's helped bring down on this nation. She calls herself a Christian, you see, and apparently I'm the godless Democrat.
Reminded me of the time I visited a rest home to see a friend; everyone was gathered around the tv watching the Democratic National Convention opening. One woman looked at me and said with her eyes big as saucers: "I didn't know Democrats prayed too!"

Well you could take pity on her, but then she'd call you a bleeding heart liberal.

(13,685 posts)That's a good old time name for the GOP of today.
And the GOP motto is: Kick 'em while they're down.
Here in NC, the people are finally revolting, having been kicked a few times these past two years. But still I see that few are that concerned... "I'm doing ok".
The only reason they are doing ok today, is because the Democrats ran NC for a century. And now that that has changed, they are about to get kicked.

(53,661 posts)That level of dishonesty under your own roof would kill you. No kidding.
I've found such people to be quite sadistic when a poor relation needs help and have no gratifude when you help them out - not even basic courtesy.
Keep strong IA. Any vegetables coming in you might share - but she probably doesn't want them.
See, you are the realistic and practical one...

(6,151 posts)and then make do on an even punier allowance. I'd put a lock on the thermostat, restrict her to Navy showers, and never leave her alone in the house. She wouldn't have $ left to send the GOP and 'prosperity pastors'. And then she'd really get mad and dump on me. Worse yet, it might turn my tickle box over and she really, really hates it when I laugh.
Here's one example and then I'll stop, honest. She's absolutely passive-aggressive but I suspect borderline as well. Years ago when I lived near the Grand Canyon, she 'stopped by' and I treated both of us to one of those bus tours. She bitched about everything all the way there, and then when the tour bus stopped and everybody got off for the afternoon, she claimed to have twisted her ankle and therefore I should sit on the bus with her the whole time. I pointed to her fashionable spike heels and reminded her that I warned her to wear appropriate shoes. And I was not about to sit on that damned bus with her either. So I laughed myself to tears almost and reminded her she needed a different schtick because that passive aggressive crap never did fly with me. Then I went about having a delightful afternoon in the company of strangers. When it was time to go, I tried not to rub it in too hard about all the fun she'd missed. Next morning she moved on w/o another word necessary. There's only so much of my TLC she can stand.
