Question for the wonderful Ladies at DU....

Are there any plans for large demonstrations or protests against the authoritarian Bastards who are trying to dictate what you can do with your bodies?

Similar to the days of the ERA protests?

brought to mind something about the Republican stance on contraception. If a doctor tells a woman she needs a hysterectomy for health reasons, will Republicans disallow it because a uterus is the first baby cradle and needs to remain in the body? To me that would be a death sentence to many women.

would be the primary reason for a hysterectomy, aside from extremely traumatic injury. In those conditions, one would wonder if a pregnancy would be viable.

But your question is still a good one: what kind of hoops would a patient and doctor have to jump through to "prove" the need for a hysterectomy?

This all goes back to the fact that medical decisions should be between a patient and doctor, not a legislature or insurance company.

Edited to add: sometimes endometriosis can be life-threatening due to excessive bleeding. This can occur in women of childbearing age, but anecdotally, I have only known women in perimenopause with this severest condition.

Probably more dangerous would be a denial of oopherectomies (sp?), removal of ovaries. This is often done for women who carry a gene for breast and ovarian cancer. Those women have an 80% chance of developing cancer. Plus their cancers tend to be extremely aggressive. Disallowing this prophylactic surgery would doom many of them.

protests are usually in far away places or during the work week, it seems. Except for an occasional loosy goosy Saturday thing.

a general strike in addition to protests in all 50 capitols plus DC.

And like Occupy, you can protest right where you are in your own little neighborhood. This is grass-roots at its best.
