WE Spoke Out and THEY Finally Listened!

It was a long, hard struggle, but thousands of YOUR emails, letters, telephone calls and social network connections paid off. THE PAYROLL TAX EXTENSION FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS PASSED THROUGH CONGRESS and the President will sign it into law!

Let’s CONTINUE to speak out for the protection of voting rights; workers’ rights; economic FAIRNESS; quality, affordable health care and social services for women, children, the poor, the unemployed, college students and senior citizens, and the repeal of CONCEALED gun legislation.

One UNITED voice can make a BIG difference!

I wouldn't carry it much further as to expectations but never give up either.

If there is a concerted enough effort. I don't think marching in the streets does a whole lot in this regard but showing up in person at local events (en masse), calling, etc. does.

Showing up at local events works sometimes. Calling, rarely unless they were already on the fence on an issue.

5. And THIS reduction in FICA contributions is being celebrated...

..as a Democratic Party Victory?
Should we really be celebrating the weakening & dismantling of the New Deal
and The Great Society?

The most successful Social Program EVER, and a cornerstone of the (Old) Democratic Party
was designed with a Separate and Independent funding source For a Good Reason.

This has now been destroyed.

I don't believe FDR and LBJ would have approved.

Payroll Tax Holiday Directly Connects Social Security to The Deficit
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1538388

Despite all the false claims to the contrary,
this incremental step does IN FACT make Social Security/Medicare weaker,
and easier to kill.
The Republicans are already whining about how this is ballooning the deficit.

During Campaign 2008, Candidate Obama promised to "strengthen" Social Security by INCREASING FICA Contributions (Raise the CAP).

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

How absolutely insulting is the spin coming out of Washington on this. This "battle" over the payroll tax cut was pure theater, and the Republican "cave" was predictable as hell.

It was collusion, pure and simple. Corporatists on both sides of the aisle wanted this.

It's amazing to me how both parties can celebrate destroying social security. It needs to be funded to survive!
