'The Queen of England'

About the new HBO film Game Change coming March 10.

One jarring revelation in which the movie reaches beyond the book comes when Schmidt makes a query to assess nominee Palin's awareness of foreign affairs, asking McCain's VP pick how she would respond in the White House to news of waning British support for the war in Iraq.

The Palin character, sitting opposite Schmidt in a campaign bus, says McCain would "continue to have an open dialogue" with the queen of England on the subject. Flabbergasted, the Schmidt character informs her the queen is not the head of government. Palin asks who is. He informs her that the country has a prime minister.

Strong said he uncovered that additional episode during the 25 interviews he conducted with principals from Team McCain. Schmidt confirmed the account.

The royal family does feel entitled to meddle in the running of the country. There are some stories in the Guardian about the legal powers of the Duchy of Cornwall, the estate of Prince Charles, that few people were aware of. It is unbelievable that this obsolete institution still holds so much power.

She was eager to link her self to Maggie but if she thought that Queen Elizabeth II was the head of government, just what did she think Thatcher did?

(5 words that make me glad we have a monarchy - President Blair and President Thatcher)

Early in the 2008 campaign, when John McCain’s aides discovered that Alaska-size gaps existed in Palin’s general knowledge (among those previously unreported: she had no idea who Margaret Thatcher was), they from time to time would give her some books to read in hopes of improving the candidate’s learning curve. On one such occasion, Palin accepted the books, set them aside, and for the next 25 minutes was held rapt by one of her three BlackBerrys.

Eventually, an aide asked, “What are you working on?”

“I’m reading these great e-mails,” she said, “from the prayer warriors.”

She didn't want to meet Thatcher until 2011
Don't forget she didn't read anything and admitted it in her interviews
and was given history and current event lessons by McCain's handlers.

Anyway I think the movie will be a blast.
