(2,667 posts)If the point is to continue debate then for god sakes let's make them stand up there in front of the camera (Cspan) and show the world just what it is they stand for. And if they come up looking like obstructionist blathering idiots, well, then so be it.

(18,807 posts)If someone's willing to stay up for hours or days or whatnot to fight for their stance then I can respect that, whether it's debating or doing the read-the-phone-book schtick. The fictitious filibuster of the last several years where people don't have to do a thing? Hell with that.

My changes include:
:give each senator a limited amount of times they can use it (like say 5)
:secret no holds-period. And give those holds a time limit (like 48 hrs)
:all filibusters are public
:and of course everyone has to stand in the congress when using the filibuster
