Via HuffPo:
Russian state television showed what appeared to be a handwritten portion of Snowden's application for asylum on Tuesday.
Russia Today, a state-run English language channel, said the photo was taken by Snowden's lawyer Anatoly Kucherena. Kucherena is a member of the Public Chamber, a national citizens advisory board created by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Greenwald did not respond to a request for comment on the asylum document's authenticity.

(16,020 posts)It would have looked better typed but nothing wrong with a hand written request. The only way he is going to get out of there is to get temp Russian asylum and then be able to get to an embassy to a country he prefers and request asylum there.

(11,238 posts)People wanting to ridicule this note for being handwritten aren't considering that maybe he doesn't have an office there in the transit zone where he can compose on a nice computer & print to his nice laser printer. Or maybe, as someone suggested in another blog, Russia doesn't have a formal application form for requesting asylum.

Whistleblower Edward Snowden has applied for temporary asylum in Russia, a human rights lawyer revealed. Russian authorities can take up to three months to consider his request. In the meantime, Snowden may be transferred to a refugee center.
"Snowden has handed over his application to Sheremetyevos Federal Migration Service staff, Russian human rights lawyer Anatoly Kucherena revealed.
I told him about all the intricacies of the procedure. It was decided that a staff member from the FMS office will come to the airport to accept Snowdens temporary asylum request, as he is not allowed to leave Sheremetyevos transit zone, the lawyer said.
It only took Snowden a few hours to fill out the application.

So the photo must be the cover letter. Clearly, there is more to the application.
