OK, so Sharia law is out, but enforcing Roman Catholic Ecclesiastical law is OK?

I have a fair number of Roman Catholics in my family. I know a lot of other Roman Catholics. One thing I know about them is that the use of birth control is not "against their religion" -- not really.

They have nothing like a "deeply held belief" that using birth control is immoral. I mean, they all know what the Pope says about it. But virtually every one of them would say that the Pope is wrong and that using birth control is not a sin.

So, why are the bishops making this an issue? It's NOT because the church membership is telling them to do it. It's because the Vatican -- a sovereign foreign government -- is telling them to do it. They are making a case for changing U.S. policy based on religious law that was created outside the U.S. by a foreign head of state.

Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.

I would gladly do that if my grandson could say the pledge of alligence at his school, that they started the day with the lords prayer as we did!(in my day the catholics were quiet the last two lines as the methodists finnished the prayer! but today my grandson doesn't have that chance while the muslims have a room set aside
to say their prayers to allah! what is wrong with this picture? who let it happen-if we cater to one religion,we cater to all! thats the american way -not the middle eastern nations !

"The people who perpetuated a massive, worldwide child rape scandal should shut their fucking mouths about "morality" at least until they're done paying out billions of dollars to their child rape victims."

I'm literally aghast at Catholics claiming any sort of moral outrage here. Maybe you should worry about yourselves first. Get your own house in order before you try to criticize people who use contraception.

written in the English language. I have no idea what you are trying to convey, other than the fact that you're functionally illiterate.

but we don't allow them to make the laws of the land regarding this issue, either, because there are social structure issues and equality issues and safety issues also at stake - and a religious belief does not trump those.

different rights and beliefs bump up against each other all the time.

however, I want to ask those Catholics who are up in arms about this -

why didn't you care when this was the law in 28 states already?

why did you suddenly care, Catholic hierarchy, when getting outraged could play to the Republican primaries and benefit Santorum in those political contests? - while simultaneously allowing the Catholic hierarchy to align with the Republican party against the President.

isn't that conveeeeenient?

I want COngressional hearings on the use of the peace pipe in Sweatlodge, whether chants and offerings to Lakshmi might help our economy and if it's acceptable to use Newt's eyes in any spellwork, (or if only a real lizard works the majick.) Then we can examine the feasibility of all of us turning off the electric appliances and staying home starting Friday night and ending Saturday night.

The bottom line is, after thinking about this, that the Medieval members of Congress are using the contraceptive issue to squeeze funds from the misogynists, racists, theocrats and others who support their campaigns. They need money to keep those seats in congress, and how better to increase the cash flow than make a Big Show for their ignorant authoritarian base?
