(32,610 posts)Not only are we 52% we are more likely to vote than males.
We could run the table if we would just get organized. Fortuntely, the Mean Men are giving us a great opportunity.
The public stoning of Anita Hill in 1991 caused 1992 to be the Year of the Woman.
Maybe 2012 or 2014 will be even better. Keep it up Republicans.

After the crap that men have given us, it's past time for women to take charge.

(113,329 posts)that, once women gain power, the men will be on the receiving end of the same kind of treatment they have been dishing out for millenia. one would think that, if that is their worry, that their behaviour would improve.

(10,237 posts)...I agree entirely!
I do have one small point, though. Perhaps what you're smelling isn't fear. Maybe it's the incontinence of those 5 old fart bastards who testified at grand theft auto izza's "hearing" last week.
REAL men DO eat qiuche and ARE NOT afraid of women as our complete equals.

(10,237 posts)...but it is very good.
BTW, Thank you for getting rid of a troll earlier in this thread!
My step mother had a poster in the early 70s. It was somewhat religious but the sentiment was good. I went something like this:
"Woman was not created from man's head to be above him, nor from his foo to be below him, but from his side to be beside him, by his arm to be held by him and by his heart to be forever loved".
PEACE!

That 2% numerical advantage, mostly among the very elderly, sure does a lot of good in such cases...

(8,421 posts)I thought we had this sh** sorted when I was in college, marching for Women's Rights in the 70s. Ok, dammit, I'll march again, but I will warn folks: I AM TWICE AS CRANKY NOW!

(45,319 posts)come after your rights as well? Apparently.
When the first round was fired from the religious right, most here said 'chill, pony, poutrage, it's just one song, it's just one prayer'.
It was always more than one song, it was always an issue of equality and of human rights.
We tried to warn you. For that, we were mocked and chided. Poutrage. Pony. Chill. Just one little prayer. Yep.

The 99% has been divided, apparently, into the 52% and the 47%.
The 1% does not fear this fight at all. It is no threat to their power.

(342 posts)Let's see, I'll get me a paper towel, a dull lead pencil, and do me some cypherin'. Okay, we've got the 99% broken up into 52% women and 47% men. Sounds about right so far. Now the, let's add the entire 1% of the rich folks to the 47% men, without regard to the fact that some of the 1% are women. Okay, 47 plus 1 equals...48. Well, it looks like to me that 48% is still smaller than 52%.
hfojvt, you'd better go brush up on your math. The 1% and the 48% better damn well fear this fight because if most of the 52% are like my Texas wife and my momma, hell or high water won't deter them. I'm on their side and I'm a bit nervous about gettin' caught in the crossfire myself.
K & R!
hfojvt
(37,573 posts)they are not fighting on the side of the 47%. No, no, no, a thousand times no. They are sitting back and sipping a mint julep or some such fancy drink while they enjoy the battle. The robber baron Jay Gould once bragged that he could hire half of the working class to kill the other half.
You see, a 99% vs. 1% is a battle that they fear. A 52% vs. 47% is a distraction that they relish, because, now instead of being united, the 99% is busy trying to kill another part of the 99%.
Now, the battle may result in some victories for Democrats, but they will be Democrats who care more about birth control than they care about economic justice. They will be "democrats" who vote for "free" birth control AND the continuation of the Bush tax cuts.
jamesatemple
(342 posts)but you can bet your sweet bippy that they have concerns about the result.
Don't you remember the first "fight" you won as a kid? I try not to remember the ten or twenty that I lost before I came involuntarily into the first one I won. It didn't amount to a popcorn fart but it gave me an increased confidence in myself and a willingness to speak up...which led me into another round of losses.
When women, the 52%, win this fight over contraception, I feel that that victory, added to the few others that they've labored for, fought for, struggled for, will compel them to take on other issues...ones that the 1% will fear to lose. At the moment, women are uniting, hopefully, against the assault on their freedom of making choices for themselves. A victory in that fight might mean that representatives opposed to women's rights won't remain in office much longer. That desired result might be the very thing that brings more progressive men and women into Congress. I feel certain that a majority of progressive representatives won't be single issue oriented but will take up issues that affect us all. And I have no doubt that Demopublicans will suffer the same fate as women-repressing Republicans.

You have to wonder what the wives of these morons actually think.
I wouldn't worry too much about the election anymore. When your opponent is going to be either Beavis or Butthead you have a pretty good chance of winning.
