George Carlin Way
For three years a group of dedicated George Carlin fans, led by comedian Kevin Bartini have been working tirelessly to petition the city to name the street he grew up on in his honor.
While thousands of people signed their petition and lent moral support to the cause the effort to honor Mr. Carlin was met by intense resistance by the local school and church that George Carlin attended which still takes up a large section of this block.
After much debate and bureaucratic red tape, the committee to co name West 121st street George Carlin way is only a "yeah" vote by the city council away from declaring victory and finally paying tribute to one of the greatest comedians that the city of New York has ever produced!
Being this close to the finish line, Gotham Comedy Club has generously offered their venue and has put together an all star line up to pay tribute to Mr. Carlin and to raise funds to help cover the costs of this effort so far and to insure that those of us who hold George Carlin in such high esteem will inevitably be able to pay our tribute to him and have a place in New York City to commemorate all that he meant to us.
The proceeds for this fundraiser will benefit the committee to co name West 121st street "George Carlin Way." Funds collected will help pay outstanding debts to web designers, graphic artists, publicists, media consultants and other people who have helped the George Carlin fans create a professional campaign to honor him.
