Mission Statement
The Trayvon Martin Foundation was established by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin in March, 2012 as a not-for-profit organization, under the auspices of the Miami Foundation. The Foundations purpose is to create awareness of how violent crime impacts the families of the victims, and to provide support and advocacy for those families, in response to the murder of Trayvon Martin. The scope of the Foundations mission is to advocate that crime victims and their families not be ignored in the discussions about violent crime, to increase public awareness of all forms of racial, ethnic and gender profiling, educate youth on conflict resolution techniques, and to reduce the incidences where confrontations between strangers turn deadly.

Check it out: The Trayvon Martin Foundation
May a new level of consciousness, and a recommitment to peace and justice come out of this tragedy.

(297,562 posts)They're turning their Grief into something very productive to honor their son, Trayvon.
It's good their dealing in reality and calling it "in response to the murder of Trayvon Martin."

The last line... "educate youth on conflict resolution techniques, and to reduce the incidences where confrontations between strangers turn deadly."
This is key for every child in America and so needed at this point in our time. The culture of hate and distrust permeates every race, religion and age, and to teach children techniques for conflict resolution is the beginning of healing a huge scar that divides America.
This is a worthy honor in memory of Trayvon.

(50,444 posts)The Martin family is the epitome of dignity, grace, empathy for others, turning their grief into working toward the greater good is what they have been doing all along, this wonderful foundation is proof of that.
Cha
(297,562 posts)are amazing in their "grace and dignity" just as PBO stated and everyone can see.
They are shining examples for us all. They actually give me more hope for what they're striving for..
"We seek a future when a child can walk down the street and not worry that others see him as dangerous because of the color of his skin or the clothes on his back. We seek a future where our children can grow up and become the people God intended them to be."

(12,665 posts)On the Presidents speech today, one of the things that stood out for me was when he talked about his daughters and their friends. He sees a difference in this next generation. He said: They are not like us! That was very encouraging to me.

(12,665 posts)What an inspiring, encouraging video. It brought me to tears.
I somehow missed all the brouhaha over the cheerios commercial. I'm now glad it came to my attention by seeing this awesome video of our future!
Thank you, Cha. I will now check out your link.
Cha
(297,562 posts)awesome as I did.
I missed all the raging about it, too.. but, when I saw this Reaction to it from Kids.. I wanted to spread their message of "that's it?"

(50,444 posts)They move me every time they speak, I am truly in awe of them. I am not at all sure I could respond to a tragedy and the injustice in addressing that tragedy with anywhere near the grace, dignity and understanding they have exhibited. In fact, I am pretty darn sure I couldn't.
Cha
(297,562 posts)they possess. Trayvon would be so proud of his parents. We can imagine what kind of man Trayvon would grow up to be.
I saw your post about giving your unexpected money to the Trayvon Martin Foundation, Spazito. Thank you so much! That's inspiring for us to give what we can because it will add up..
Spazito
(50,444 posts)the hope that, maybe, just maybe this time there will be the impetus to work for real change.
Every penny counts and increases in value the good it can do exponentially, it WILL add up, and add up in so many ways!

(12,665 posts)I have supported the Foundation and encourage all others to do the same.
We can not go back and change the outcome of the trial, but we can move forward to be sure Trayvon did not die in vain. We can use his voice, and that of his parents, to help other young children that this will not happen to them.
Thank you, silverweb, for bring this here.
Spazito
(50,444 posts)and I can't think of a better use of it than to contribute to the Foundation.
