Apparently they were supposed to convince the jury that Z wasn't afraid for his life. How the hell can one even do that? What would that look like?
That a witness heard him say: "Come here asshole, I'm not afraid of you! I don't think you will kill me!"
Is that really what they needed to prove?
If not that, then please provide an example of what a proper successful prosecution would have to do to get a conviction in a case such as this?

I know there were some road blocks, things moved pretty fast, the jury probably had a bunch of bigots (I think I read that two even had gun permits, so they are clearly afraid of scary black/brown people) on board, and the laws clearly protect scared bigots. But, the prosecution failed to cut through and shame the jurors into doing what is right and moral.

(16,038 posts)witnesses who supported the contentions of the prosecution's case. It would have had witnesses who would attest to a contention of a racist past for Zimmerman. These witnesses were not called because, from what I've seen, they don't exist.

(17,742 posts)There most certainly was evidence in his past such as prior events, restraining orders, molestation accusations, etc. But that was never admitted.

(16,038 posts)he obviously wasn't a felon..was he ever convicted of anything? Could any of the charges been the result of racism too?
The prosecution didn't have a case..
I know of a man who I strongly believe killed 2 gay boys (17 years old), the police and prosecutors believe he killed them too...there are/were bodies, just no witnesses and no physical case...he walks free every day..and has for 10 years...it makes me sick..I also know a woman's husband who coincidentally was an abusive drunk, was found dead of a gun shot in an alley. The police think she did or hired the murder but they can't prove it. I interviewed her the next day and believe strongly she didn't do it. I believe that her relief that the torture this abuser had been handing out was over made some cop(s) believe she did it..
The same rule/law/rights changes which would have to occur to convict the first would likely also convict the latter...Some guilty go free so innocents aren't wrongly convicted..

(17,742 posts)One who heard someone say "You're gonna die tonight MF'er!"
According to the only survivor, those words came out of someone's mouth.
What if someone had overheard those words?
We'd still be arguing about who said them. It was dark and even an eyewitness couldn't see someone's lips moving.
So we're left to theorize about who said it. I propose that the guy with the gun who was worried about "those punks getting away" said it.
