Jersey City murder victim was 'persistent offender,' authorities said
The 34-year-old Jersey City man who was shot dead at Ocean Avenue and Wegman Parkway yesterday morning has been called a persistent offender by law enforcement officials, who said that even confinement to a wheelchair never stopped William Ghost Albright Jr. from selling drugs.
Mr. (William) Albright (Jr.) certainly is a persistent offender, based on his record of prior drug convictions and current allegations, former Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio told The Jersey Journal in May 2007 after Albright and his brother, Daron, then 22, were charged with selling cocaine and illegal gun possession in Greenville. He is a known actor in other parts of the city as well.
Yesterday, William Albright, of Garfield Avenue, was found lying in the street face down around 6:30 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His wheelchair was found nearby. Authorities have not determined a motive for the killing.
In 2002, The Jersey Journal reported that William Albright was shot while standing outside a bar at Ocean Avenue and Stegman Street on Dec. 8, 2002.
One of the numerous .380-caliber bullets fired at him lodged in his spine, leaving him unable to walk, police said..
