and still find Zimmerman a despicable man who committed a great moral wrong. Several DUers have more or less said that. It for sure doesn't make Zimmerman their "Vigilante hero" or make them racists or any of the other nonsense tossed out.
It makes their opinion different from mine and yours.
Simple as that. And if this is too meta, hey, just hit alert.

(8,203 posts)I want DU to be a place where we can disagree without demonizing each other.
But then again, that's what I want for the rest of the world, too.

Most likely, isn't the standard. It isn't even really close to that to my mind and so it should be damn difficult to get convictions. The problem is that many or even most defendants don't seem to get that bar of reasonable doubt, especially black males and don't have the resources to mount more than a token defense in an extreme mismatch with the state, not that it is too hard to convict.

(3,908 posts)There was no defenseable reason for it. If he were frightened he could have left and gone home. The police were notified. If he had not had the gun Trayvon would be alive. Trayvon was murdered for walking home at night by a man who thought he had the right to murder him because he was black cause a whole uneducated corrupt state, talk radio and someone on the internet said he could.
The jury acquitted Zimmerman because Trayvon was black and they were not taught to think only to react or follow.
I cannot say I am not glad today that Florida will be sinking into the ocean. There are still some good people in Florida unfortunately they seem to be murdering them all as boogymen, liars and cheats. In other words they are mistaking them for the 1% who have made their lives much more difficult and put all the (misplaced) fear into them.
I hope some answers come soon. God stopped listening to all our selfish prayers long ago when so many of the Churches went over to the dark side. I think he would say fix this yourselves with love, and kindness and forgiveness but only when those caught up in this Sodom-Gomorrah furvor offered to us like meth, finally see the light and repent and get right.

(35,568 posts)He had a horrible defense because that's all his family/supporters could afford under our justice-for-profit system. And they made a less persuasive case than the Defense did. The whole thing is obscene. Trayvon, rest in peace. The fight goes on for millions more like you who have no voice, no protection, no defense.
