I have sat back and allowed myself time to assess the current episode revealing itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him….against the direction of the 911 responder. Let’s all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

Many conservative black's understand the plight of African Americans. Their solutions are different from those of liberals.

It's wrong on the most basic level what happened to Trayvon, everyone can feel it. Even crazy right wingers who otherwise don't feel or get what the Party they're backing is really about.


This is about gun violence not the second amendment. This is about gun control, sane laws, not taking away your guns. This is about CHILDREN being gunned down all over the country, black boys not being safe to walk the streets because any and everyone is allowed to have a gun - even crazy bastards that have had run ins with the law and who obviously displayed irrationality and a flagrant disregard for the law when he was told NOT to follow Trayvon. Shot him dead and they gave.him.back.that.very.gun. These crazy bastards can pretend that's ok all they want to but in their guts they know it's not. And if they DO think that's ok then it's because THEY would not be a target to a Zimmerman-

Trayvon Martin was no different than any other kid who walked to the store to get some candy, except that he was black and had the misfortune of crossing paths with a lunatic who had a gun and wasn't afraid to use it. ANY body would have defended themselves against a creepy ass stalker like Zimmerman. Trayvon defended himself. Now he is dead and his killer walked free.

Trayvon Martin was a defenseless INNOCENT kid: If it's OK to murder Trayvon then nothing is sacred. Nothing.

She's a black woman who happens to be a republican...big whoop. She didn't lose her ability to understand the plight of black youth in America. Or, at least I hope she didn't. She has a different political perspective.

Have we been listening to some of the voices of DU on the Trayvon Martin case? There are people absolutely convinced that allowing this killer go free was the right and just thing to do.

I have no doubt I could sit down with Amy Holmes and find places to find agreement OUTSIDE of politics. I can only think of one or two black conservatives that I know personally. One typically votes republican, but voted for Barack Obama for President. The other just sounds very conservative. But, he also voted for President Obama. But cases like this Trayvon Martin trial pull us together and remind us that the world has a bulls eye on our children.

If given a choice between Amy Holmes and the tiny group of DUers that have been grave dancing over this acquittal, I'd rather talk to Amy Holmes about this case. Republican or not. I mean some of the responses have been enough to make you throw up.

I tend to spend more time with people who profess to be progressive. Not conservatives. And, still, there were those trying to rationalize...you know them...

"Well, we just don't know what happen. Yes, yes, it's such a tragedy. But, we'll never know." That's code for ... it's still not worth sending someone to jail over it.

They don't see Trayvon as a child. And, any benefit of the doubt, well...that's reserved for the non-responsible, gun owner, that stalked and killed the unarmed teenager.

We had a case not too long ago, where a young man KILLED HIMSELF and they wanted to put his antagonist and bully in the electric chair or give him life in prison.

But, well...Trayvon...he just isn't worth breaking a sweat over by some. True, I don't expect republicans to care. But, when they do, I take notice. But, I also expect democrats to care...and when they don't, I take notice.
