Police are allowed to make some political statements, but on actual job performance, the FBI has found numerous civil rights violations, etc. Our police are particularly brutal at times. They are actually banned from carrying 4-DCell mag flashlights, because they used to beat people with them.

Mixed record, probably mostly good, but some VERY bad.

Someone who advocates in uniform may not be discharged but should receive some form of UCMJ punishment just as this woman should have if she was advocating as a representative of the Seattle PD.

not a Sanford police officer. She works for the City of Seattle, which is mostly a liberal area. What she did isn't reflective of anybody in the Seattle area. If she doesn't agree with the Sanford police, she has a right to express it. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the citizens in that area support her and the police in Seattle. The Sanford Police can learn something about community support.

They have official sanction by the military to wear their uniforms.

Up until that point they would/ should have gotten in trouble.

If the Chief of Police gives official permission and says that the stated position of his department is that they support Martin over Zimmerman then she can go nuts.

That probably didn't happen, even in Seattle.

Maybe she is just standing there. I'm talking about the context in which it was delivered as she was protesting in uniform. My evidence is that no police chief in America would be that stupid.

If it she wasn't protesting or she is just having a snack then so what and its just a photo with poor context.

you don't pay her salary and that is not the Army. I don't mind my local police taking a stand on murderers that are a danger to my community and many of them look like Trayvon. If he did that here, the verdict would be different. I can guarantee you, so just because he got off there doesn't mean everybody would have voted the same way. If he was here and I was on the jury, Zimmerman would be going to prison.

First, I don't even know if the picture was taken at a rally for Martin, do you?
Second, why does anyone get the impression she is supporting Martin and not just getting ready for a snack?
Third, is she on duty or off?
Fourth, I think everyone should show support for innocent people that are gunned down in cold blood, do you?

I don't want to post the link, because I don't want to make it easy for people trying to make life difficult for her.

So you don't have to take my word for it, just give me the benefit of the doubt that I'm not trying to imply that she put on her uniform off the clock to attend a rally. I felt just posting the pic without commentary was powerful enough to stand on it's own.

Sanford POs are involved in the case and must show some neutrality. Florida law enforcement has some overall involvement as well. Seattle POs have nothing to do with this case.

It's OK to smoke pot in Seattle. You can get cashiered from the military for the accusation of that, which would include going to demonstrate against something the brass approves of, even in civies.

I'm so intrigued by her I decided to do some more digging, and found this interesting article. Talks of her difficulties with racism and sexism while in training, and some of her awards and laudable work with the community.

"As a police officer Detective Cookie has experienced some of her proudest moments. She was a body guard to Rosa Parks when the civil rights leader spoke at Garfield High School. “And I was one of the Seattle Police Officers on security detail for the inauguration of President and First Lady Obama. I had tears running down my eyes. I got a beautiful gold badge. This is something I will cherish for my whole life.”
