1. this is already happening in gated communities- hiring their own "force"... in one murder

case, the county police said the gated security had jurisdiction and did not do their job. They aren't police, but are given license to interfere in legal matters. Bizarre.

2. "Parable of the Sower" by Octavia Butler.

I just reread this book & am now rereading "Parable of the Talents." Of all the post-apocalyptic Earth sci fi stories that I've read, this series resonates as a likely scenario, considering the current path we're on. It's not very uplifiting.
