At sometime, somewhere, the Democrats have to stand up to the extremists.

The more the Democrats surrender, the more emboldened the extremists become with their agenda. We see it now with the Republican Governors, the "anti-women" legislation, the concealed carry permits, the threats by the NRA, etc.

Also, we see it in the US House of Representatives as the Tea Party leads John Boehner around by the nose. We see it in the US Senate as Mitch McConnell sees as his calling the blocking of everything that comes up in the US Senate, even the nominations of people to positions to keep the government running. He has chosen his radical path over the survival of America.

Meanwhile, Harry Reid and the Democrats twiddle their thumbs. They do nothing but complain and talk about the next election. The sad fact is that the next election will be meaningless unless they stand up to the extremists now.

Harry Reid is probably not the man for the job. Naturally, he wants to protect the Democrats in his caucus. He doesn't want to put them in uncomfortable situations. He thinks that the Republicans will come to their senses, perhaps tomorrow? He is not in touch with reality.

He needs to put some in his own Party in uncomfortable position. If they do not want to vote to temporarily change the filibuster rule for debate, then the voters need to know their names. Let them defend their votes in the next election. Harry has their backs and they know it. Once that changes and the Democrats show the courage to vote their convictions and to do what is needed, then the extremism, right down to conceal carry laws, will diminish.

The decline we see, and the radical agenda of the Republicans, is taking place primarily because of the weakness of the Democratic leaders. We don't want to admit that because we think it will all change if we win the next election. It won't.

As we get closer to any election, it will come down to what it always comes down to, the political equivalent of the choice for a Happy Meal toy.

that would take them out of their comfort zone. As it is, this situation they have created gives them cover. Just enough to say, 'We tried" didn't have enough votes , all we could get was a compromise. Stop and think about it, anything that gets passed is watered down enough to where it helps their class and gives the base a little bone, with all the meat very carefully removed.

if the Democrats in the Senate would stand up, it would affect politics all down the chain, even to local conceal carry laws. It is important that we have an opposing Party during these trying times. It is not enough to beg people to vote for you in the next election. That will change very little when we have an extremist minority that is willing to shut down our government.
