I've been watching the whole case closely. Any other verdict would have been unjust. The state simply didn't prove their case. They didn't really act as prosecutors at all (with all of the "what ifs" . They blew it. Big time.
Clearly, Zimmerman shot Trayvon. Clearly, Trayvon would still be alive if Zimmerman had stayed in his car. However, the prosecution failed to prove that Zimmerman committed 2-D murder beyond a reasonable doubt. They didn't offer sufficient evidence that he didn't act in self defense beyond a reasonable doubt. They introduced reasonable doubt themselves!

(63,645 posts)...but the reality is that this was not an easy case to win.
Incredibly difficult, and it seemed there just wasn't enough evidence for 2-D.

(793 posts)These are like conservative republicans. Big time. Listening to her post verdict comments on the radio she sounded almost celebratory in the face of a stunning defeat and almost universal condemnation of their prosecution. Talk about sunshine up the a$$!
Maybe their heart wasnt in it. Punches were pulled(no pun intended). Amazing.

(731 posts)I think they charged him because they felt they had to had to. Or my somewhat conspiracy theory is they just wanted a venue to show the public that there wasn't enough evidence to put him away.

(52,162 posts)I think the only shot the prosecution had was to get Zimmerman on the stand. I would have charged manslaughter not murder and I would have only put up the medical examiner and the doctor who examined Zimmerman, no one else. I would have made the defense put up other people so I could treat them as hostile and thus lead them. No tapes of Zimmerman, no Zimmerman in the car, none of that.
