How can she be so smug? This is what happens when you pay bottom dollar for government officials.

(11,101 posts)And watch a cop being prosecuted for just about anything. It's a charade. Anyone who watched this and couldn't tell they were in the tank wasn't watching very closely.

(61,935 posts)But it did seem to me that about half of the prosecution's witnesses were neutral on the issue if not in favor of Zimmerman's story. It seems like they were interviewing the same people who had decided not to pursue this in the first place and in the process uncovering the kind of ambivalence that had made them decide not to prosecute in the beginning.

(11,101 posts)And generally, the prosecutor has a pretty firm grip on how the cops are going to testify. You are free to draw your own conclusions. I've seen enough witnesses in 20 years to know when someone is mailing it in.

(4,609 posts)The cops clearly aren't convinced the guy's guilty -- and they're probably a little pissed and resentful over the political pressure that's been brought to bear on them over the past year -- so what would you have the State do? Not call them?
With the exception of Corey's personal ME and one or two others, nearly every State witness started testifying for the defense at some point. That's not just witnesses phoning it in. That's a case that should never have been brought.

One could argue that this made the DA's office reluctant to pursue it well.
One could argue that they didn't think they'd win in court given the evidence, and they did the best mediocre job they could.
I suspect the two scenarios would be remarkably similar looking, and which you decided you were seeing depended upon what you brought to the tv screen or printed page.
I wonder how this fits in:

(1,247 posts)They just gave away the trial. They didn't prepare their witnesses well.
