Nothing new in that belief it seems to be what everyone is expecting. The thing that really annoys me is that the prosecution fucked things up by going for 2nd degree murder. It was obvious from a mile away that that was going to be a very difficult charge to prove. Even man slaughter may be difficult but IMNSHO Zimmerman needs to be fucking punished. If not for murder or manslaughter at the very least for needlessly profiling a young man and ignoring the 911 dispatchers. He aggressively went after Trevon because Zimmerman is a wannabe vigilante. He didn't get to be a cop so he's but hurt and now goes about being a little superman. I'm sorry but you don't get to do that without dire consequences. I'm not going to get into what actually happened after Zimmerman and Trevon met because honestly I don't think that will ever be solves to anyone's satisfaction. But I DO think that he needs to be punished at the very least for things he did leading up to that moment. And the sad thing is it looks like he wont.
UPDATE: sadly I was right

(65,616 posts)At the least. Most DUers seem to be expecting him to get manslaughter.

I hope you're wrong. I've been thinking that all along. I'll tell you one thing though. GZ's life has changed forever, and not in a good way. We may never know what happens to him or how he feels, but he will not live a life of contentment and he will be blamed for murder by most of the public, even if they're not saying it now. He'll be a persona non grata category, like Casey Anthony and OJ. And I can almost guarantee GZ will mess up again and wind up in jail for something else. He is not good people.

(6,539 posts)That way the state can look "tough on crime", by making an arrest.
The state blew the Casey Anthony case when they went for 1st degree murder. (which is what she probably deserved), but as a prominent attorney said; "If you're going for 1st degree murder, you had better have a picture of it happenning".
edit to add.....I hope you are wrong...

(4,840 posts)reasonable doubt, afaic. So I think if the jury gets that they will convict on the 2nd degree.

(12,444 posts)I suspect the Jury just might finish tonight with deliberations...May have a verdict by 9 pm. No later than tomorrow by 1 pm. That's my gut feeling.

(1,850 posts)"at the very least for needlessly profiling a young man and ignoring the 911 dispatchers" Trouble is, neither of these things is illegal.
Probably, manslaughter would have been a more appropriate charge than murder 2, but at least manslaughter is on the table.
