Nomophobia -- fear of being without your phone -- is on the rise

I don't have this,but having a phone is a nice security blanket.

Nomophobia -- the fear of being without your cellphone -- is on the rise, according to a new report sponsored by SecurEnvoy, a company that specializes in digital passwords.

Using the online polling service OnePull, SecurEnvoy found that 66% of the 1,000 people surveyed in the United Kingdom say they fear losing or being without their phone.

I frequently like to take a day when I leave mine home on purpose--and yet, I love my iphone and use it for lots of things. But, sometimes, I just don't want to be in phone/text/internet/email contact.

I can't tell you how annoyed that seems to make some people--which in turn, annoys the hell out of me.

Should be presented with these two options-

Be locked in a shipping crate for seven hours with five of these-

Or go without your "personal" phony for a week LOL

I'm sure glad humans weren't this fragile during the last ice age

Men talking on the phone while standing at a urinal or on the throne...people talking incessantly in elevators, during meals with others at a restaurant, in the car, everywhere.

I swear one of these days I am going to rip the phone out of the person standing next to me on the treadmill at the gym who is either talking and/or texting the entire time and jump up and down on it. It even happens in a spin or aerobics class..the woman next to me is texting every time the instructor gives us a 45 second recovery period.

Trust me, these people are not that important. I would be concerned if I had become that self-obsessed. That is what it is...they can't feel like they have any worth unless they are constantly talking or texting to someone. How about a little personal soul searching and reflection in quiet?

of vehicles on and off pedestrian crossings.
There will be more than a few Darwin awards to come soon and very soon.

Never have I seen such madness - when your own life is less important than the next text message or BB, you are already batshit crazy. It is mass stupidity at levels I never dreamed possible.

A fear of being continually electronically harnessed. Not a fear or phobia so much as a distaste. I don't own a cellphone and 'm perfectly content.

but when I'm home I just leave it on the kitchen table or somewhere else that I don't remember so I have to call it in order to find it. I don't take it with me when I'm working out in the yard and I definitely don't take it to the bathroom. I did get a little nomophobic a couple of years ago when my elderly dad became seriously ill and started to decline because I had to be in constant contact with his caregivers - something was always happening, so I always had to have the phone with me. But I've never felt I had to have it with me all the time just to have it. I don't have to be able to play Angry Birds all the time.
