During my lunch break a coworker and I were talking about Spitzer getting back into politics. I said jokingly that at least he is not the South Carolina governor who was using tax payer money to go bang his mistress...
Well at that same time a conservative coworker happened to hear me. He comes up to me and says. Pedro, you must be a democrat. Why are you concerned with another states tax problems. Are you not concerned with Oliar spending 200million to go to Africa. I'm a patriot, I care about my country, unlike the liberals who are sinking the ship.
I didn't want to argue, but I could not help myself. So I responded back like a patriot would I suppose. I said, I'm an American If another state is getting ripped off I should be concerned. So you have no problems with a thief being in office again? What of the billions lost in wars that did not need to happen? Its ok if some people screw the country, but other we'll give a pass to?
He looked at me, and shook his head repeatedly. His last words before walking away were. Liberals will never understand America must be protected at all costs. Pedro, I hope that one day you'll see the light.

(51,459 posts)pointed out that's exactly how the USSR went down, playing the arms race. He must be one of those 'christians' who think the USA is god's country.

(31,828 posts)Don't let him tell that lie about President Obama's trip to Africa.
And remember - he is a weak, miserable person who engages in fear based behavior.

(2,667 posts)What did it cost the taxpayers for Bush to land on the fucking aircraft carrier and what was the tab for his dam near endless golfing and fishing trips with Poppy?
And who blew Clinton's surplus?

(9,462 posts)"leaked" white house document. The story that wasn't told is that there were 500 business people in tow. The 3 countries he visited are 3 of the top 10 for growth in the world. Our exports to SA are up 30% in the last year. We have a net export with them. Africa is a significant player in the future, for their emerging markets and their natural resources. China has visited about 20 times in the last 2 years. That's 2 Presidents because they just had an election. Tell your conservative friend we can't defend our country if we don't have the resources to make the missles, bombs, aircraft, nor the oil to use them. Your friend is typical of a conservative. They were misled by the press and the repubs turned a positive into a negative. Truth be told, Obama should have gone over there a few times. Sadly, the bigots in this country would rather see us go down that give credit to Obama.

(9,350 posts)It seems to me that the issue about the cost of President Obama's African trip is a case of Obama Derangement Syndrome. I skimmed the Washington Post article that discussed the supposed cost of the trip and the things include in the costs. From what I could see everything included in the Obama trip was included in every trip President Bush took.
Much of the cost came from providing transportation for President Obama and his family once he landed in each country, providing around the clock Secret Service protection for the family, moving the presidential haulers from country to country, and setting up the logistical equipment to get president Obama and his family out of each country if something terrible happened.
All of the things listed above seem to be the things that are done for all American presidents. so, what is the big deal with President Obama. I do not remember stories like this being written when President Bush was in office. Furthermore, the article did not list the cost of either of President Bush's African trips. The cost of President Clinton's African trip was listed as was President Obama's, but once again no price tag for President Bush's African trips.
