(111,110 posts)I am surprised. I never thought he would make it out of Russia. But better to have him in Venezuela than in Russia, for security purposes, I suppose?
Will wait for more details.

(111,110 posts)My feeling, more and more, is that he has two viable options: Return to US for a "secret" trial or seek asylum in Russia. I think Russia wants him to stay very badly. He would be a PR goldmine for Putin. He would be a real-life hero to the Russians.
Catherina
(35,568 posts)from excitement. what a jerk thing to do.
I hope he makes it to Venezuela or wherever he wants. I don't trust Putin. I appreciate what he did but I still don't trust him. And coming back to the US would be suicide. He's not safe anywhere on the planet
I hope he's at least getting plastic surgery.
kentuck
(111,110 posts)Never!
But he is running out of options and, unless he wants to come back to the US for trial (probably secret), then he has no other option but to ask Russia for asylum. He will be treated like a hero over there, I am sure. I would be greatly surprised if he returned to the US.

MOSCOW -- An influential Russian parliament member who often speaks for the Kremlin encouraged NSA leaker Edward Snowden on Sunday to accept Venezuela's offer of asylum.
Alexei Pushkov, who heads the international affairs committee in Russia's parliament, posted a message on Twitter saying: "Venezuela is waiting for an answer from Snowden. This, perhaps, is his last chance to receive political asylum."
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua said Saturday his country hasn't yet been in contact with Snowden, who Russian officials say has been stuck in the transit area of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport since arriving on a flight from Hong Kong two weeks ago. He has been unable to travel further because the U.S. annulled his passport.
Jaua said he expects to consult with Russian officials on Monday about Snowden's situation.

"Asylum for Snowden in Venezuela would be the best solution. That country is in a sharp conflict with the United States," pro-Kremlin lawmaker Alexei Pushkov, chairman of the international affairs committee of Russia's lower house of parliament, said on Twitter.

(111,110 posts)Maybe he thinks it is in Russia's interest if he is not in Russia? In that case, he could arrange a flight to Havana for him and a connection from there to Caracas. Of course, by the time we hear about it, it will probably already be done. It will not be advertised ahead of time.
Catherina
(35,568 posts)but possibly turn a blind eye if someone came to get him?
There's been a lot of speculation in the Spanish press about routes he could take. Someone researched also that for $200,000, a long-range private jet could be chartered. Just the two Snowden funds I know of had about $60,000 in donations last week so a private jet could be an option.
I agree that we wouldn't hear about it in advance. That would be suicidal.

(40,416 posts)As a DUer of moderate history, I am thankful for this. Maybe we can begin to become friends and again fight for the common cause -- to elect Democrats to office.
Don't like the Democrats in office? Well, work to become a delegate and help change the party like the Christians did with the GOP, from the inside and from the bottom.
If you want a progressive, liberal Democratic Party, get liberals and progressives into those precinct positions. But, I warn you all. It took the Christians a couple of decades to do it all. But when they got it done, they had the whole cake, frosting and all.
The have many state legislatures, too. That's the next stage. If DU doesn't see the stark future, they aren't paying attention.

(17,064 posts)I did a little internet searching. There are no non-stop flights from Moscow to Venezuela. There are two airlines that fly non-stop Moscow to Havana. Aeroflot flies 5 flights per week...every day except wed and fri. Transaero flies on friday. Apparantly, those flights cross Baltic or Scandinavian countries friendly to the US, and likely won't authorize overflight with Snowden aboard. That makes me think Morales's flight may have been a trial run...the Russians deliberately leaking info Snowden was aboard, in order to test the waters.
It is possible to fly from Moscow to Havana (or Caracas) without overflight of any countries, but it is a much greater distance and would require a charter flight (big $, I assume). Range is within a large jet's capability though.
It might be possible to take an alternate route with stops...Russia to Iran, Iran to NW Africa (like Senegal?), and from there to Venezuela. Pretty risky though. Russia to Iran likely flies over Turkey, Iran to Nw Africa likely flies right through Med surrounded by NATO forces.
So it would seem Snowden's problem is with overflight. A charter flight eliminates that problem, but might be shot down with no other passengers aboard. Hmmm, will post if I find a solution.

Indian Woman Stoned To Death For Sending Husband Too Many Facebook Game Requests
Yeah...real hilarious, that.... not.
In case you're still unclear... http://www.prlog.org/12157111-facebook-whistleblower-says-fake-accounts-makeup-half-of-all-current-users.html
Paul Horner (not his real name) told the BBC that the shill accounts are not deleted for the sole purpose of keeping Facebooks stock price up. I think it is wrong what Facebook is doing and its finally time that someone came forward to expose this scam and that someone is me, Horner said. Facebook claims it has over 1 billion active monthly users. The real numbers are closer to 600,000 at the most. If that news were made public the stock price would plummet, so Facebook is careful not to take action against the fake accounts or to disclose that information.
Horner then went on to list the sites with the most fake users on Facebook. With the private data that I have personally seen, the pages that have the most fake users are the ones belonging to Fox News, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Bill OReilly, Rush Limbaugh, Rick Perry, Michele Bachman & Sarah Palin just to name some of the top offenders, Horner said. The fake users are easy to spot on their pages. Anyone agreeing with these people or telling them how much they love and appreciate what they are doing for America; that is a dead giveaway. Horner continued, All the Tea Party fan pages out there, those are 80-90% fake users. There is just not that much hate in the world for pages like those to have the numbers they do, and the companies that fund those pages know that too. So they create thousands of fake accounts and pay people with no morals to work their agendas using those shill accounts. Or they just let the shill account stay inactive but it gives the page the appearance of having more users than it actually does.
Horner finished the interview by telling the BBC News where he got his inspiration to be a whistleblower. If Edward Snowden has the courage to come forward and expose the NSA, then I can do the same in exposing Facebook.
The right thing to do is just delete this garbage....if you think it's a hoax, that is. If you believe it, well............. ...... ................
