I believe that Snowden wants to start a coup against the US Government. I believe he wants to start another American spring uprising similar to that in the Arab world last year. I believe that he not only wants the American people to be angry but others around the world to get involved in this uprising. I wondered why would this guy leave the country with classified information and flee to a country or ask for asylum in countries with poor human rights that are worse than that of what he is accusing the US government of doing. Then I came across this article.

Everyone knew the N.S.A was collecting Data. What many of us didn't know that there were safeguards put in place in collecting the data. Two of the articles were written by no other than Mr. Greenwald and the NY Times wrote the last one.

Course these article didn't get as much fan fare than that of the N.S.A is spying on you. The articles that were published based off Snowden's account didn't emphasized the rules of collecting American data or procedures that the N.S.A must follow for collecting foreign data. What was the evidence that Snowden said that the N.S.A violated the 4th amendment? What evidence that he showed that the N.S.A weren't following these rules or regulations in collecting the data? If the Supreme Court chief Justice Roberts preside over the FISA court, how can these actions be unconstitutional? So again, what is the real purpose of Snowden's action?

(30,058 posts)Agreed, here we have a patsy trying to stir up the uninformed, they don't check for the truth, that would be too simple. It would also destroy Snowden. Its like,a ne'er do well trying to make something important. It sounds like a Paulbot who doesn't like our government and wants it shut down.

(12,769 posts)I worry more that it may be used against us in the next election.
However anyone paying attention already knew all of this and many of us have been complaining about it since its inception. Yes, we even knew about the "safeguards" that were put in place, although they ere not enough and the programs are still expanding. The patriot Act and the entire Homeland Security (Good gawd, wasn't "homeland" a dead giveaway?) fiasco was a slippery slope that will be nearly impossible to rein in.
Yes, I am glad Obama is in charge and I don't really feel he would use the information to hurt me but he won't always be in charge and a future administration might well abuse the information.
What is funny though, is that, aside from DU, I don't see much about this at all. People seem to have already moved on to other issues once again. On DU, the issue wouldn't be so prevalent either if the side bent on protecting this administration from the really indefensible wasn't keeping it on the front burner by posting so many threads calling out those intent on keeping our rights. Funny how their intentions to help the administration may just be doing it more damage.

(376 posts)Second, I didn't write this to protect the administration. My OP was in no way politically motivated. I was merely point out what some on here either didn't read or refuse to point out. We are so ready to easily believe that our government is so bad. I wrote this because everyone is trying to seek the truth. I don't think anyone knew that there were safeguards in place. I based that on the perception I got from what I read on how Snowden is a hero and seeing Greenwald face on every news channel calling him everything from a patriot to the second coming of Christ. All I am doing is asking what is his real intentions?

(2,022 posts)Why can't it be what it appears to be, a kid with a conscience blowing the whistle on wrong doing by our government?
DU has always been a place that overwhelmingly supports whistle blowers, so you shouldn't be surprised that that is still the case.
gholtron
(376 posts)No one cannot answer that. What was the crime? Do you know? Do you have a link that points to the crime that the N.S.A has broken? You may be ok with taking someone's word that you don't know that says the government is breaking the constitution without providing ANY proof of that but I'm not ok with that. Whistleblowers points out the where the law was broken. He did not fulfill that requirement. Now prove me wrong.
