my phone connection is getting wonky...tapped?

Okay, I have been quite active as of late posting anti-govt sentiments, i am a journalism student and a single mom with HUD housing help... I am sure there's a file somewhere...especially since I was a runner for ABC News Wash. Press corps in the 90s (met clinton, loved him)

Every time I talk to my mom (who lives in nevada, not too far from me actually) the connection goes wonky. I have had her say I am fading in & out, and we BOTH heard a clear clicking and whining sound this last conversation. I said, "if the black SUVs come, know I didn't go willingly" we've been joking but now I wonder

on the one hand I think they WANT us all to be scared, so we monitor our own behavior and don't question big brother.

On the other hand i think they are like the keystone cops and couldn't find their ass from a hole in the ground

just for shits and giggles...who here thinks everyone at DU has a file on them?

it's six one way- half dozen the other

either I should be scared they are watching me or I could care less because I matter in NO way

...and IF they were listening so well, how many of the recent tragedies could have been averted? yes, Boston comes to mind...among others...

If they tap people for those reasons they're missing the real terrorists.

I'm with you on the keystone cops thing. I'm not sure with the way our gov't handles most thing that they can find their own ass with both hands.

But if they pay attention at Free Republic... Well they might get lucky.

Cell phone or home phone.

What provider?

The reason I ask, if you have Sprint, they are in the middle of a giant upgrade and at times their service may be wonky as they are working on installing the new equipment.

No chance it's a tap, just a shitty, shitty phone line. If the government or whomever is tapping that line, they're listening into the call thinking "Jesus, what a shitty phone line" too.

my phone was being tapped because of wonky reception. This is long before cell phones or cordless phones, for you young 'uns out there. Various friends, when I was talking to them from my phone also thought perhaps it was tapped.

Can't even begin to imagine why. I was an airline ticket agent, had almost no social life, didn't plot to overthrow the government or anything like that.

Occasionally I think about doing an FOIA to see what if anything they have on me, but it probably would be quite dull, since I've had a fairly boring life.

<Snip>

Mr. Pickering was targeted by a longtime surveillance system called mail covers, a forerunner of a vastly more expansive effort, the Mail Isolation Control and Tracking program, in which Postal Service computers photograph the exterior of every piece of paper mail that is processed in the United States — about 160 billion pieces last year. It is not known how long the government saves the images.

Centralized NSA-style tapping happens after it's packet-switched, so it doesn't leave any artifacts.

Caveat: a physical tap placed by local police (or criminals) could still leave sound artifacts.

Our phone has been crackling, popping, dropping calls, and sometimes we don't have a dial tone. Verizon finally admitted it was the copper wiring and they could no longer guarantee our service via landline.
