There are certain standards in a Woody Allen profile: obligatory nod to the conveyor-belt pace at which he puts out movies; mention of his controversial personal life; hat tip to his world-famous neuroses; and, if lucky, a smattering of self-effacing statements from the legendary filmmaker himself. While the latest profile of Woody Allen, from The Wall Street Journal, ticks off each of those boxes, it also includes one somewhat heartbreaking passage in which the 77-year-old writer/director discusses his single biggest regret these daysthat he can no longer play the romantic lead in his films.
Its an inevitable disaster of aging, and theres nothing I can do about it, he said recently, sitting in the cutting and screening room he rents in a swanky East Side apartment building. . . . I cant play the scenes where Im sitting opposite Diane Keaton or Mia or Dianne Wiest or Judy Davis. If I think of parts for myself now, all I can be is Pop, the lovable doorman backstage at the theater who takes phone numbers for the guys, or the psychiatrist, or the amiable dad at the wedding. He sighed. I like to be the lover.

(52,162 posts)our society doesn't really value old people. It isn't because he is a sleezeball that he can't be the lead it is because he is old and that is, indeed, sad.

(12,530 posts)Some of his more recent work isn't his best, in my opinion, but I think that he has a great body of work.

(63,213 posts)Not just about Allen himself; any thread will do.
Someone makes the accusation, and guilt is assumed outright.
Ergo, accusation equals guilt.

(29,047 posts)I personally don't buy it.

(63,213 posts)Sorry--my over-the-top snark blurred my actual intent.
Typically, in addition to an assumption of guilt, there is also an immediate call for violent and destructive retribution against the accused, and to hell with a trial or evidence.

(4,945 posts)You may find Allen creepy, but there is no evidence that he was/is a pedophile.
I don't think Woody Allen is like that.
But Polanski definitely is.

(32,076 posts)he's always been a lech talking dirty about nubile teenaged girls. Once he bagged his kid's older sister I judged him. There. I admit it.

I judge those who are dishonest, you OP is dishonest and disparages good people . Soon Yi Previn was an adult when they got together, and not owned by Mia Farrow, not a child, not related to any of them in any way. Allen and Farrow never married, Farrow herself was twice married to much older and richer men including Andre Previn who was married to Dory Previn until Mia came along. Andre and Mia adopted Soon Yi.
Here is the song Dory Previn wrote about Mia called 'Beware Of Young Girls'
Beware
Of young girls
Who come to the door
Wistful and pale
Of twenty and four
Delivering daisies
With delicate hands
Beware
Of young girls
To often they crave
To cry
At a wedding
And dance
On a grave
She was my friend
My friend
My friend
I thought her motives were sincere
Oh yes
I did
Ah but this lass
It came to pass
Had
A dark and different plan
She admired
My own sweet man
She admired
My own sweet man
We were friends
Oh yes
We were
And she just took him from my life
Oh yes
She did
So young and vain
She brought me pain
But
I'm wise enough to say
She will leave him
One thoughtless day
She'll just leave him
And go away
Oh yes
Beware
Of young girls
Who come to the door
Wistful and pale
Of twenty and four
Delivering daisies
With delicate hands
