Yes, I have been down on Obama, et al, lately...but then I remember the alternative.

In the novel, McCain passes away and Palin assumes the presidency. |

* For horror fiction enthusiasts: new novel comes out with alternative history whereby McCain/Palin ticket won in ‘08 and then aged president succumbed to illness.

What would happen, according to Rich and the book is a government that claims to speak for God and policies based solely on the Bible, which would overwhelming hurt gay Americans.

“The biggest mistake that we can make is that we don’t believe that they believe what they say. And for many of them, they do mean exactly what they say. If you think that the rapture is going to come in your lifetime, if you believe as many of them do that hell is a physical place where you’re confined to for all eternity, these things motivate you.”

Scary? You betcha.

2. McCain was never a viable candidate

He couldn't have beaten either Hillary or Obama and both parties knew that

If they'd been serious, they'd have run someone else.

And bonus, we would never have heard of Ms Palin

4. McCain (and Romney) ceased to be an alternative when they were beaten.

They are not an alternative now. As much as McCain would like to act like a shadow president on talk shows.

My point is that we can be both relieved neither of those men attained the presidency and still keep a critical eye on the job the guy who beat them is doing. It's not an either/or thing.

know what an outstanding President he is. The raging on the internet has nothing to do with the excellent job he's done and will continue to do throughout his term.

And, thankfully there are many more out there who get the Big Picture.. and do celebrate the victories we get.

It is set on a Nazi colony on the moon. The U.S. President closely resembles sister Sarah sends a re-election publicity mission to the moon. After being captured the African American Astronaut becomes the hero. Meanwhile after the Nazi's go to Earth they contact the American President. Obviously imitating Barack Obama she is going down in the polls changes her message adopting the words of a 1930's German politician. They fit Sarah (President has another name in movie) well and really sound like her. Movie is a great allegory. The Nazi Moon colony gets an African American fuhrer while the Earth is over come in greed and war. Even though it got terrible reviews I thought it was great detailing how easily hard core fascism fits the Palin like President.

The only good thing that would have come of that is that by now the religious wackos would have realized of how little importance they really were.

the "liberally-biased media" trotting out conservative after conservative pointing out how it was keeping us safe and the massive promotion (far more than the weak "support" of Obama saying it) of the idea that the spying on citizens saved untold lives.

That, and ... "whoops" ... those pesky UAVs took out yet another "suspected terrorist" on U.S. soil ... and no hours-long filibuster by Rand Paul ...

plus, nobody would be hearing from those "anti-administration protesters" because they would have been in jail for years now, instead of being backed by billionaires with the fancy-shmancy "Don't Tread On Me" flags ...
