"Big Brother is watching you and you think he's watching out for you. But he ain't."

That's what I said to Darrell (my mechanic) when we were chatting this morning. He said the surveillance didn't bother him much and I said "Big Brother is watching you and you think he's watching out for you. But he ain't"

After that as best as I recall my rant went something like this ...

Go into any medium sized town (actually I said Morgantown, WV which is in the next county, downhill from here) and there is will be cameras at every intersection that has a traffic signal looking in every direction. It used to just banks and convenience stores that had cameras rolling 24/7 but now its virtually every storefront. It has been reported that in California at least 14 counties have the cameras of their police cruisers on and recording all the time, putting together traffic patterns used by everyday drivers. Everyone knows there is a no-fly list, if your'e on it you don't get to fly; no one has told you that you can't use other forms of otherwise publicly available transportation, not yet. And how do you become singled out? Start with the patterns of your use of various means of communications, your phone, your computer, maybe your mail, and then consider the information that is held about you by others all the way from the phone company to your creditors, your insurers, and your doctors, and yes, probably to your employer as well. Big Brother (meaning our overreaching Government by way of its spy agencies) has access to all of it, And they search and they search and they search, always looking for patterns, always sifting the data, this way and that. And if your name comes up, be it by way of a friend of a friend of a friend, then forget any notion that "they" don't listen in on your phone calls. Rest assured that if any of the algorithms comes up with your name or you've been seen too often in the wrong place or you've associated with the wrong people or joined the wrong groups you will be heard loud and clear.

Big Brother may be watching you but you'd be a fool to think that he's doing it to watch out for your best interests. And as long as I'm on best interests, let me finish this rant with this: Government does nothing unless someone's interests are being served, and ifs its not your's then who's?
