On this business of "trusting" the government . . .

A lesson I learned a long time ago about 'trust' is that the people in my life who are most worthy of my trust are those who, for the most part, would never dream of testing it. I think it's a lesson that applies to governments as well.

I would also say, to those who would call me and those who feel as I do a Republican, a teabagger or whatever, that refusing to extend blind trust to a government is not at all the same as being anti-government. And in this entire NSA mess, it is precisely BLIND trust we are being asked to extend. And that is completely, categorically inappropriate.

You said it!

I don;t trust ANY of them as far as I could throw them. This is not about trust anyway...because WE are the ones being put on trial just for living our lives. ya, that's like trusting an abusive spouse who watches your every move, bank transactions, calls etc...and says it is for your own good. I honestly believe that the entire country has a type of 'battered housewife syndrome' believing that their abuser/jailer is really their saviour, or resenting the abuse but feeling too powerless to rebel...

(now get ready for the flames...)

Indeed, for most people, I think, whenever we see a friend or family member getting romantically involved with someone like that, it sets off alarm bells -- as indeed it should -- and we fear for that person's safety. So why should similar behavior by the government towards all of us not set off similar alarm bells?
