Have you ever voted "lesser evil?"

Voting "lesser evil" means you don't really like either candidate, but one is worse than the other. I have voted "lesser evil" many times in Montana because I don't want the Republicans to win elections.

by lot, as opposed to elections, then I think we would be much better represented most of the time.

Not all positions should be filled by lot, but I think this would be perfect for Congress.

The only Democrat I've ever voted for that I did not think was, at heart, a fairly evil man was Jimmy Carter. But every other Politician I ever voted for, and over 99% of them have been Democrats, turned out to be either ineffective or a fraud. To my mind in an elected official either of those failings is cause to call them an evil man (or in some cases women).

seem very sad to me. To do so, it seems one must be clinging to some impossible utopian view that can lead to only one outcome: no one will ever live up to this, and you will be doomed to disappointment, finding ever more "evil" in the world.

I can think of only one instance in my forty-some years of voting of having reluctantly voted for someone on that basis (though I would never refer to it as voting for the lesser evil). It was when I first moved to Illinois and knew I didn't like Blagojevich (this was before all his troubles). I voted in the primary for an opponent, who lost, and then felt I had to vote for him in the general election, as opposed to the Republican. It's the single vote I regret.

the OP's question was just 'have you ever voted for the lesser of two evils' meaning ever, in any election. Your response was about people who see the whole world in degrees of evil.
To leap from 'I once voted in an election with no good choices' to 'you see the world in degrees of evil, and that's sad' is absurd, reductive and just odd.
To then claim to be all about the nuances of language is just out of place. Sorry. But I found your response to be mean. It makes you sad?
I had to vote for DiFi. Lesser o' two evils. That should make you sad.

I did want to vote for Obama in 2008, but by 2012 it was all about the lesser evil. I almost didn't vote in 2012. I live in a very red state, so it wouldn't have made a difference, but I talked myself into it because I didn't want Romney to win the popular vote.

that elections cause oligarchies, which is why the Athenians filled most political positions by lottery.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sortition

Democracy arose from the idea that those who are equal in any respect are equal absolutely. All are alike free, therefore they claim that all are free absolutely... The next is when the democrats, on the grounds that they are all equal, claim equal participation in everything.

It is accepted as democratic when public offices are allocated by lot; and as oligarchic when they are filled by election.
