Conservatives And GOP Would Privatize Firefighters & First Responders.
Andy Rooney once said that veterans should get no special treatment because it is a "privilege to serve". Firefighters, first responders, and police face dangerous situations during the course of their career where ANY emergency could end their lives. Yet an element of the public seems to support what Andy Rooney said about vets for first responders. Too much of the public seems to support profitizing many public services including first responders. That would mean doing it cheaply and making even those jobs low paying like virtually all privatized jobs are.
Still conservative politicians and the GOP push the idea that these services should be privatized and people doing these dangerous occupations should get NO special treatment when it comes to wages, benefits and pensions. The attack on public servants by the right wing continues and increases by the day.
Wildfire fighters today face the most dangerous conditions in history due to global warming and it will only get worse. The loss of these firefighters proves how almost suicidal it is becoming to put yourself on the fire line now.
I assume these firefighters were essentially government employees paid by taxpayer money. They deserve more than we can pay them in money. Why anyone would vote for any politician who supports corporatizing and profitizing essential public services is a complete mystery to me.
