LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) -- A judge sentenced on Monday a husband and wife from Paso Robles who admitted harboring Filipino illegal aliens and forcing them to work in sub-standard conditions.
U.S. District Judge Audrey B. Collins sentenced Maximino Morales, 46, and his wife, Melinda Morales, 48, to 18 months in prison.
The couple, both natives of the Philippines, operated four local elder care facilities. Prosecutors say the couple recruited Filipino nationals to work as live-in caregivers at the facility but were forced to work alone on 24-hour shifts making less than minimum wage.
"The Filipino victims in this case were lured to the United States with false promises and were essentially performing slave labor," said United States Attorney André Birotte Jr.

18 months? I'd say 18 years would have been more appropriate.
