Texas Republican Leader Blasts Perry: He ‘Crossed A Line’ Criticizing Wendy Davis

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/06/28/2234591/joe-straus-perry-wendy-davis/?mobile=nc

On Thursday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) was widely criticized after personally attacking State Sen. Wendy Davis (D) — who had staged a one-woman filibuster to beat back a sweeping anti-abortion bill this week — by saying that “she was a teenage mother herself” who unfortunately “hasn’t learned from her own example.”

Now, as the fallout from Perry’s comments continue, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus — a staunch Republican — is distancing himself from the governor. “Disagreements over policy are important and they’re healthy, but when he crosses the line into the personal, then he damages himself and he damages the Republican Party,” Straus told Texas Tribune reporter Jay Root.

Still, Perry continues to defend his attack on Davis. As a guest on the Laura Ingraham Show Friday, Perry echoed his earlier remarks, saying that it’s “sad that she does not understand that every life is precious, certainly her own.” He continued, “how many young men and women across this country didn’t get to accomplish what Wendy Davis just accomplished because they weren’t born?”

who has a child out of wedlock. It would be nice to help a woman keep her baby if the republicans are willing to fiance a way she can go to work and pay to have a good daycare take care of her baby. Just like in Germany and many european governments where they think children are important.

gamesmanship. IN this case there may be a little more to it. Perry has vetoed Republican bills. Perry clearly has his own agenda, which is probably being directed more by Koch and big oil, than the state Republican party.

10. Rick Perry should run for President

I'd like to take this opportunity to suggest to republican readers they support Rick Perry for President. To make his candidacy even more powerful he should run with Michele Bachman as his vice presidential candidate, and prepare a list of future cabinet members including Sarah Palin for Secretary of the Treasury, Oliver North for secretary of Defense, Otto Reich for Secretary of State, and Rand Paul for Health.

This tremendous combination of republican brainpower will help Mr Perry become a dynamite presidential candidate.

14. Look for the term "Perry fatigue" to crop up in the runup to 2014.

Perry has been governor since 2000, when he succeeded Bush. Texans are getting of him making Texas a national laughing stock.
