The IRS needs to stomp on this Tea Party dream quick

John Aglialoro, who got rich enough making fitness equipment that he could afford to indulge his vanity making bad movies, has greenlit the production of Atlas Shrugged Part 3. It will be unloaded on the world next October, just in time to affect the election.

Since Part 1 lost almost its entire production budget and Part 2 even more than that, it's safe to assume they'll have to pay exhibitors to show Part 3 and hire audiences to see it.(Maybe they'll just go straight to video on this one; it seems to work for the Death Race sequels.)

Back to this catastrophe: since the first two movies lost money, assume this will too. Can't the IRS declare this shit "an activity not engaged in for profit" next December?

philosophically..to have the .gov quashing them is the antithesis of democracy IMHO..I don't wish it for the teabaggers any more than for the occupy movement..or any other political movement..the polls and the public will decide..

2. So you want the government to censor the Tea Party.

If you give the gov't the authority to censor political viewpoints that you don't like, someday you will find the gov't censoring you.

I already subsidize their Jesus fantasies. I already subsidized the first two installments of this.

This movie series was supposed to bring the genius of Ayn Rand to the general public. The general public does not believe "fuck you, I got mine" is a message that's worth paying $10 for, much less $30 to see all three installments. The first movie cost twelve million to make and grossed two; they can't hardly give it away on DVD. The second one was so bad theatres were cancelling screenings because no one - NO ONE! - wanted to watch it. At this point there are only two explanations for Part 3, beyond mere vanity. He either needs some major tax loss to offset the profits from his gym equipment business...or Atlas Shrugged is the Springtime for Hitler of the 21st Century.

Hey, he can make all the vanity pictures he wants. He can do a pop-up version of the complete Ann Coulter canon, and print Reagan's words on toilet paper so teabaggers can have something besides Batman comics to read in the men's room. But if he's not doing things for money, he needs to do it on his own dime.

3. pffffft... teabaggers pumping millions into a movie no one will see... And you want to stop it?

Why?

Aside from the whole 'free speech' thing we like to keep going... Who cares about them pissing away their money on something useless.

4. They're losing a lot of money and making fools of themselves

and you want the government to stop them?

Not a good idea IMO. It could easily be turned against Democratic supporters the next time there's a republican administration.

8. From personal experience I don't think that is possible

I can only use losses as an offset against any gains I might have.

But it is true that every dollar they avoid paying is another dollar that the rest of us have to cough up.
