Drunk Texan kills himself while playing with gun

By Stephen C. Webster
Thursday, June 27, 2013 15:49 EDT

A drunken Houston man shot himself in the head Thursday morning as he played with a gun in the parking lot of a local business, police said.

The man’s name has not yet been released, but The Houston Chronicle noted that the shooting took place around 2:30 a.m.

Witnesses claimed he was showing off the gun, a revolver, before pointing it at his head and pulling the trigger several times. It did not fire.

Then the man apparently decided to tempt fate once more. Witnesses reportedly said he put the gun to his head for a fourth and final time, pulling the trigger and sending a bullet into his brain.

Yes, a pistol.

BTW, I used to work with a Russian guy, a programmer. He said what you see in the movies is Americanized Russian roulette. His story was that when political embarrassments occurred, six leaders would sit at a table and play roulette with a revolver loaded with 5 bullets. The survivor would deny any involvement with the problem situation.

there are out there. Even if the vast majority at least relatively responsible - i.e. keeping their guns in a safe place and not brandishing them while intoxicated - the sheer number of firearms out there means a whole lot more of these incidents will happen.

Granted, I know that drastically reducing the number of guns which already exist in this country, is probably unrealistic. But further increasing said number is no solution at all.

Im sure this man didnt want to end up an idiotic drunken dead guy. When he was a child he may have had aspirations of being a state park warden or fireman. I'm sure the years and the failures piled-up to make that childhood dream an unattainable wish. Gun lifestyle pushers and drug pushers are the same way; they talk of the incredible power one feels when using their products and the manhood confirming honor it confirms on the owner. Mixing this kind of gun mindset with alcohol and family problems almost always results in the use of the gun for one thing or another. Maybe this poor man was going through a difficult point in his life and had been subject to gun lifestyle ideaology and trivialization. The drunken variation on russian roulette was a final scream for help- did the whitnesses just stand and watch without trrying to stop him kill himself?
So sad. So very very sad. life is an infinitely valuable commodity that should never be refused or misconstrued as an inconvenient short condition. I hope his loved ones are okay and able to learn from his mistakes
