Rick Perry Attacks and Insults Wendy Davis
-snip-
Perry said this:
In fact, even the woman who filibustered the Senate the other day was born into difficult circumstances. She was the daughter of as single woman, she was a teenage mother herself. She managed to eventually graduate from Harvard Law School and serve in the Texas senate. It is just unfortunate that she hasn't learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential and that every life matters.
Update 12:06 p.m.:
State Senator Wendy Davis released the following response on Perry's remarks:
Rick Perry's statement is without dignity and tarnishes the high office he holds. They are small words that reflect a dark and negative point of view.
Our governor should reflect our Texas values. Sadly, Gov. Perry fails that test.

He was trying to shame her.

(15,223 posts)Perry is supposedly not going to run. IMHO he's afraid of the Castro brothers.
I honestly think his handlers are telling him his run is over. His failed Presidential bid and screw ups on national television made the Repukes look bad even though, of course, they would never admit that.

Most calendar watchers are expecting an announcement Thursday, June 27 or Friday, June 28.
Madam Swami Juanita predicts that Perry will not run for Governor, leaving that door open for someone even worse Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, an enormous bully and hypocrite.

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund and a native Texan whose mother, Ann Richards, served as governor, responded in a statement to HuffPost.
Rick Perrys remarks are incredibly condescending and insulting to women," Richards said. "This is exactly why the vast majority of Texans believe that politicians shouldnt be involved in a womans personal health care decisions. Women are perfectly capable of deciding whether to choose adoption, end a pregnancy, or raise a child, and they dont need Rick Perrys help making that decision. What the world saw in Texas this week was democracy in action. The people had a voice this week, and well make sure they have a voice in the weeks ahead."

(23,156 posts)instead of vague generalities.
It happens all too often that someone whose early years are so difficult and who then succeed are held up as shining examples as to why everyone should succeed. But it's invariably specific circumstances the result in success, not amorphous ideals that magically result in good things.
What exactly happened that allowed Senator Davis to eventually graduate from Harvard Law School? That does not happen in a vacuum.

I give him a grade of F. Wendy Davis gets an A because she understands her job is to represent the people who elected her, not to ignore their wishes and push through her own personal agenda.

(9,462 posts)with Perry planting a seed for her next campaign. While it seemed like he wasn't calling her names, he used the term "teenage mother" to the average Texan they're going to think (got pregnant in high school), never mind that she was married at 18 and had the child at 19. The combo of single mother, which is a little misleading. What the libs hear is "mom didn't have anyone else around to help" what neo cons and repubs hear is "unwed mother". Also discrediting her accomplishments, she "eventually" "managed" to get a degree.
Everyone right now is starting to form a opinion of her. The gop smear team wanted to make sure the image is negative. AT least we know they're worried.

(145,443 posts)First up, an exhaustive post on Gawker, All Your Rick Perry Gay Sex Rumors Collected in one Handy Book:According to Maxey-who, while obviously a partisan, is as far as I can tell not a crank and served 12 years in the state legislature-he located two men who claimed to have had sex with Perry. One was a male prostitute who told associates that Perry had hired him three or four times a year for hotel parties with Perry and an aide. The other was a man who responded to a Craigslist ad allegedly posted by Perry. Along the way, there are dozens of other more tenuous second-hand reports, including one man linked to Perry who pointedly refused to deny the accusations.
That story is a GREAT read, and the comments are even better. Gawker really digs in to the book, and it's fair to say that their regular reader community is tailor-made for these kinds of exposes. The Gawker story had sufficient comments and page views that their post might help give this story legs into the national media.
It may be time to revive this story given Goodhair's comments about Senator Davis
