Snowden set back human rights in China and Russia (so far)

By running to Hong Kong and Russia, Snowden is helping these countries politically. He allows their governments to argue a false equivalence with the United States. In general, if a government is a severe abuser of human rights or civil liberties, Snowden has helped to take pressure off of that government. They will now feel free to oppress, torture, and imprison more, knowing they can just say the magic word "Snowden."

If we act on it now, we will look like subservient fools to Beijing, Moscow, and those insignificant strips of land playing country in South America.

in either China or Russia.

As for the U.S., we're better when it comes to human rights at home than China and Russia but we're at least as bad if not worse when it comes to the human rights of people in other countries.

No blameshifting anybody comes up with is going to whitewash that. It simply needs to be FIXED. If our government would like to look good, that's what it could do. Nothing else will make any difference.
